Masterson Paving is the driveway crew whose trucks neighbors notice: in a November 2022 review, a homeowner said he called after watching the blacktop next door hold up for two years, and another that month approached the crew mid-job on the abutting driveway to get his own done. The company, which also goes by Makers Construction and Paving, says it is a fourth-generation family business paving and repairing asphalt driveways and parking lots across Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts, from Woonsocket and Providence to Bellingham, Franklin and Attleboro. The volume is real: 4.8 stars across 85 Google ratings, plus 4.6 across 34 on Angi and HomeAdvisor, with 24 written reviews running 2019 to 2025. The praise is consistent on two points. Owner Eric returns calls and shows up when he says: in an October 2022 review, a Woonsocket customer was surprised to get a same-day callback and a crew that arrived on schedule, and a 2021 reviewer said the estimate held. And the jobs go fast: a Worcester landlord's large rental lot was paved in a single 93-degree day in July 2022, and 2022 customers in East Providence described two-car driveways and extensions done the same day, with the owner working alongside the crew. The complaints are about the asphalt itself, and they come from the same summer. In June 2022, one homeowner said weeds pushed through within months and the edges broke off in chunks over the first winter, with one side cracked. Another June 2022 customer, who took the lowest bid, said the crew spread the asphalt by wheelbarrow rather than machine, leaving high and low spots. An August 2022 reviewer said promises were not kept and rated the work middling, and a November 2022 customer found them hard to reach by phone even though the driveway came out well. On the other side, a 2021 reviewer said a problem was corrected when raised. In an April 2023 Reddit thread, a poster wrote that the business had rebranded as Masterson Paving and that “Their work is still subpar.” The newest written review, from September 2025, again credits the communication. For a straightforward driveway install or extension at a competitive price, this is a well-trodden call; before signing, ask how the asphalt is laid and compacted, what thickness and base prep you are getting, and what the warranty covers if edges crumble or weeds appear in the first year.
