Méndez Landscaping and Construction, working out of East Boston, is best known for hardscape work — stone walls, patios, walkways, driveways, and concrete stairs — alongside full landscaping services: planting, mulching, tree removal, sod installation, and seasonal cleanup. The company says on its own site that it has served the Boston area for more than twelve years. The name that comes up in nearly every one of the 42 reviews on file, going back to 2022, is Francisco — the owner, described over and over as hard-working, responsive, and easy to plan a project with. The jobs described are substantial: rebuilt front steps and a transformed backyard done as two separate projects in 2023 and 2024 for one customer; a cramped, ledge-heavy urban lot that a 2025 reviewer called almost insurmountable before Francisco's crew took it on; a recurring flooding-patio problem finally fixed, described in an early-2025 review. A 2023 review described a concrete garage slab that a town inspector called the best he'd seen. Several customers say they've hired the crew more than once, or that a neighbor did too. Communication and scheduling get praised specifically and often — reviewers describe accurate timelines, crews that show up when promised, and a willingness to adjust the finished work to match what the homeowner wanted even after the job was done. That makes one recent account stand out: in May 2026, a reviewer described making an online inquiry that went unanswered, then a text that got a reply but no follow-through on scheduling times they'd offered. It's a sharp contrast with the pattern described elsewhere, and worth asking about directly if reaching out cold rather than through a referral. One more thing worth knowing before calling: the company's own twelve-years claim doesn't match its BBB profile, which shows the file opened in April 2026 and lists the business as under six months old, or its Angi profile, which is brand new with no reviews yet and states seven years of experience instead. None of that is a customer complaint — the Google review history itself runs back to 2022 — but the three figures don't agree, so it's fair to ask directly how long the business has actually operated under this name. For Boston-area hardscaping — patios, retaining walls, walkways, driveways — with landscaping work folded in, this is a company with a deep, mostly glowing record built over several years; get a firm response and a scheduled estimate in writing before counting on a start date.
Francisco and his crew work magic. When I bought my house it was in bad condition. The driveway was crumbling. The stairs at the entryway and the retaining walls were falling apart. The yard was a mess with construction debris. People used to come up to my front windows and peer in to see the renovations. I initially hired Francisco's crew for small job and felt satisfied enough to have them build my entire outdoor experience. They paved the driveway, leveled the land, rebuilt the retaining walls, put granite front steps, front patio and back patio. They put up a retaining wall along the driveway and fenced the yard. They put sod in the front and back yard and planted bushes. Dirt and water used to come down the mountainside against my garage, a rot risk. They leveled the area around the garage, requiring them to dig stones the size of children 4 feet around the space and built a terrace garden to the left of the garage as well as a walkway of pavers from my deck to around the garage. My friends and family drove past my house because it is not recognizable. I'm posting before and after pictures.
Very poor communication. I made an inquiry online and got no response. I texted him and he ended up responding as I attempted to schedule for that week. I responded with times I was available and I never heard back. I was interested to do a decent amount of work as well. Don't be surprised if you never hear from him.
Mendez landscaping and construction really did wonders with my unforeseen disaster. During a windy night, I woke up to find that my fence attached to 1000 pound stones had fallen over. What a nightmare! This is where Mendez and friends came and saved the day. After agreeing to a reasonable price, he and his crew (and heavy equipment) came out the next day and repaired the wall and fence. I can’t thank them enough for their help. I highly recommend their services!
The best in masonry, I recommend it.
Francisco and crew are amazing. Great price, great communication, flawless work. Will definitely hire again.
