Middlebury Fence

Middlebury Fence says on its website that it has been in business 37 years. On its BBB page the company describes itself as manufacturing, selling and installing fences, and says it also offers light excavation, Adirondack furniture, play structures and site amenities. A recent customer said it was their second time using the company, for a pool fence and an upper deck, and that James, the lead man, checked with them every step of the way. A customer who bought a vinyl privacy fence for a condo building at Smugglers Notch Resort 13 years ago wrote recently that the fence has required virtually no maintenance, and that a call to order a replacement post cap got the same service. A recent reviewer said the crew was hardworking and on time, even in the rain. In a January 2026 Reddit thread, a commenter said that on a job five years earlier Middlebury Fence was in and out in one day and cleaned up its messes. A 2025 customer wrote that Mike said in 2005 the fence should last 15 years; it lasted 20, and the team came back to replace posts, sections and gates. A 2025 customer said Stuart and his team reworked a failed electric entry gate system and came 4 days earlier than proposed. A 2023 customer said the company installed a split board fence on their property in Montpelier, worked with them on design changes to fit their budget, and installed it about two weeks after the quote instead of the roughly 8 weeks first quoted. A 2024 customer said the installation was right on, but that the company had not responded in 8 months of trying to get snow damage dealt with. A 2024 customer said their 3.5-year-old fence blew apart in a spring wind storm, that no concrete or sand had been used in the install, and that three weeks after Mike, the owner, promised to make it right they had heard nothing. A 2025 customer wrote that the company never completed an estimate and did not return several calls. A 2023 customer said the company stopped answering emails about a gate installation for over a month. In 2018, a Reddit commenter in r/burlington who had worked with the company a few times wrote that it can sometimes be hard to get ahold of for small stuff. On Google the company holds 3.9 stars from 47 ratings, and its BBB grade is A+.
