A recent Google customer came back from vacation to no hot water on a Friday afternoon, called, and a tech came out and fixed it. Mike Murphy & Sons describes itself on its BBB page as a full service oil company serving the heating needs of Southern New Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts. It holds an A+ BBB grade and 3.8 stars from 18 Google ratings. A 2026 customer wrote that the company delivered oil to their home without authorization, even after they told the driver he had the wrong house, and then sent a bill. That 2026 customer said the receptionist hung up on them, and that a later bill added a late fee. A 2026 reviewer said Andy Murphy came out to repair a boiler after the pressure valve released water, replaced a 2 year old part and put a small bucket under the pressure relief pipe. That 2026 customer said they came home to water flowing into the garage and finished basement, that the emergency technician then pointed to the broken, stuck pressure relief valve, and that the company was refusing to take any responsibility. A 2026 customer of a few years praised the company's friendly service.
Came back from vacation and had no hot water Friday afternoon, called an a tech came out and fixed it !
recently had a very disappointing experience with Mike Murphy & Sons Oil. They delivered oil to my home without authorization, even after I told the driver he was mistaken and must have the wrong house. He dismissed me by saying that we were “on his route” and completed the delivery, only to come back minutes later and admit it was in fact a mistake. Despite this, the company sent us a bill. When we called to resolve it, we were met with rude and unprofessional behavior, including being accused of trying to get “free oil” and being hung up on by the receptionist. Just a few days ago we received ANOTHER bill with an added late fee so we called again and the same woman answered and barely let my boyfriend get a word in before hanging up on him again. We’ve always used Haffner’s Oil and never agreed to this delivery. We are a new family living paycheck to paycheck and simply cannot afford to pay for THEIR mistake, especially because I told the delivery driver we never ordered from them from the get go. Extremely poor communication and customer service all around.
They have been excellent to us. Highly recommend!
I would give zero stars if I could! Stay away from these people, UNLESS YOU WANT A FLOODED FINISHED BASEMENT WITH WHAT AMOUNTS TO PROBABLY THOUSANDS IN DAMAGES! Mike Murphy and Sons came out to "repair" my boiler after the pressure valve had released a small amount of water the night before. I texted that night and was told it wasn't an emergency and to call the next day for service, which I did. Next day Andy Murphy came out and replaced a 2 year old part, but couldn't be bothered to fix the "pressure valve" that he kept commenting was "stuck". The fact that the pressure tank (not sure of the actual name) was only 2 years old, and not the 5 plus years that they generally last should have been his first clue that that wasn't the problem. The valve that he kept saying was "stuck" was the problem and he couldn't be bothered to fix that! Never told me that I should hang around the boiler and make sure it was ok, and he was aware I was leaving for work, my mom stayed while he remained, but she also was not warned to stay and watch boiler and that their was a potential for it to leak again etc. Instead Andy found a very small bucket in my basement and put it under the pressure relief pipe, indicating that he knew there was a potential for more leaking. I get home from work at 8pm or so and find water flowing into my garage and finished basement area and water POURING out of the pipe that apparently lets water out when the pressure is too high in the boiler. I quickly call Andy and explain the situation and he seems not to concerned and explains how to shut the valve off to stop the water, he also seem irritated that I am even calling him. He then tries to tell me they will come the next day to look at it again, and I say NO WAY, you will send your emergency technician now to make sure I shut the water off correctly! His emergency technician arrives a short time later, and immediately realizes it's the pressure relief valve that is broken and stuck that is likely causing the issue (Yes, the same valve that Andy kept saying was "stuck" while he was replacing the part that likely didn't need to be replaced). Here we are many hours later and no more leaks now that the obviously broken part has been fixed. I now likely have THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN WATER DAMAGE BECAUSE ANDY MURPHY COULDN'T BOTHER TO FIX A STUCK VALVE, AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I will now have to go through. my own insurance, pay a deductible and then sue them if my insurance doesn't go after theirs!!
Can’t say enough about Murphy & Sons. I’ve been a customer for a few years and their friendly service is outstanding. Thank you Murphy & Sons!
