Mt. Hope Masonry is a Rhode Island masonry and hardscaping contractor run by Ian Leger, who customers and a local news segment describe as doing the hands-on work himself. Reviews describe projects across the East Bay area, including Tiverton and Bristol, focused on stone walls, walkways, patios, steps, and driveway masonry. Across 43 reviews from 2023 through 2026 on Google, BuildZoom and Angi, the record is remarkably consistent — five stars with no negative reviews found. Customers describe detailed, technical craftsmanship: a custom "raw-edge" technique cut into fractal pavers with attention to drainage, matched lichen growth when rebuilding a stone wall a car had struck, and a restoration of 19th-century stone steps on a pre-Revolutionary Bristol home that involved removing old cement caps and re-fitting field stone and precisely cut bluestone by hand. Other jobs described include a cobblestone driveway entrance in Tiverton finished with matching gravel and loam, a concrete driveway lane addition, foundation resurfacing paired with concrete step and garage repairs, and a walkway job finished with tree-root removal and reseeded grass. Several reviewers specifically praise fast response — same-day callbacks, quotes turned around within a day, and jobs squeezed in on short notice, including one homeowner whose crumbling front steps were repaired just before a scheduled surgery and another whose driveway was cleared during a blizzard the day before a hospital visit. Pricing is repeatedly described as fair and transparent, with several reviewers noting no surprise costs after the quote. One item worth confirming before booking: BuildZoom's directory listing shows the Rhode Island mason license (#GC-48588) as expired as of its last verification, so it's worth asking directly about current license status. For stone walls, walkways, patios, steps, or driveway masonry work in the East Bay area, the reviews point to a responsive, hands-on owner-operator with an unusually deep and consistent track record — just confirm the license is current before signing.
“Krystin Rae sits down with Ian Leger, owner of Mt. Hope Masonry, to learn more about his work which includes natural stone walls, patios/walkways and other masonry repairs too.”
Ian and his team were a pleasure to work with. Everyone was pleasant and focused on doing a great job, going above and beyond! I highly recommend using Mount Hope Masonry!
We hired Mount Hope Masonry for one project that quickly turned into three... our outdoor fireplace, driveway restoration, and pool wall repair. We couldn’t be happier with the results! We originally found Ian while looking for someone to do the stone facing on our outdoor fireplace, and from the very beginning he was incredibly responsive, professional, and easy to work with. Whether it was a quick text or phone call, communication was always prompt. He’s also very realistic and transparent when quoting jobs, explaining potential unforeseen issues upfront so there are no surprises later. The fireplace completely exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are phenomenal, and it truly became the centerpiece of our backyard. After seeing his work, we hired him to restore and re-level our large paver driveway, which had multiple uneven and sinking areas. This was a major project, but the finished result looks fantastic and feels built to last for years to come. One thing that really stood out is how much pride Ian takes in his work – if something doesn’t sit right with him, he’ll come back and make it perfect, even if you may not have noticed it yourself. Our final project was repairing stonework around our pool waterfall and stairs. What started as a simple patch job turned into a seamless restoration. Ian noticed we had matching stone stored under our porch from a previous project, cut it to fit perfectly, and blended everything so naturally that it looks like it was always there. Good masonry work is hard to find these days, and Mount Hope Masonry is quickly building a reputation as one of the best around. Ian clearly cares about doing things the right way, and it’s obvious in both the quality of the work and the way he mentors his apprentices on his crew. We highly recommend Mount Hope Masonry for any masonry project, big or small. If you’re thinking about having work done, get on his schedule now, because once word gets around, he’s going to be booked solid!
I recently hired Mt Hope Masonry to repair and replace the tiles on my front steps, and I could not be happier with the experience. From the beginning, Ian, the owner, was professional, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about his work. He took the time to explain the process, answered all of my questions, and made sure every detail was done the right way. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. The new tiles on my front steps look beautiful, sturdy, and professionally finished. Ian takes real pride in his work, and it shows in the quality of the final result. The project was completed on time, the work area was kept clean, and the customer service throughout the entire process was excellent.
Ian did a fantastic job repairing my brick stairs. I can’t say enough about his response time and attentiveness from the first time we spoke. He took my call immediately, told me he would give me a quote and did so in record time. He fit me in and got the job done within several days. Not only did he do a great job in a timely manner but he is personable and has such a pleasant and positive disposition.
Highly recommend Ian and Mt. Hope Masonry. He was able to squeeze our project in right before I was having a major surgery which I really appreciated. Our front steps were really crumbling and would have made it hard for me to access the house when I got home from the hospital. His work was thoughtful, professional, and I know will last a very long time.
