Five stars across 98 Google ratings, and the work behind that number is almost always the front of somebody's house: brick steps breaking apart, a walkway that has sunk, a retaining wall that finally let go. Homeowners write about the people rather than the company. John turns up in nearly every account, usually alongside Tom. A July 2026 customer described the pair rebuilding a puddingstone retaining wall with new stone stairs and a trash enclosure, and another that same month credited "John the owner" and his crew with laying a full patio in two days. In a 2024 review, one homeowner called them "local, Dedham craftsmen." The steadier theme is that the crew shows up when it says it will and finishes quickly. A March 2025 customer wrote about a 90-year-old front step that broke mid-winter: Tom stayed in touch through the cold weeks, texted once a day warm enough for concrete to cure was forecast, and had the reconstruction done by early afternoon. The most demanding job anyone describes is from June 2024 — a 130-year-old stone foundation that had gone from weeping to a steady trickle, repaired along with regrading. That homeowner waited a month and several storms, including 1.5 inches of rain in one night, before writing to say the basement stayed dry. Money comes up as often as craft. A June 2026 customer said the quote came in at half the others received; a September 2024 reviewer said the price stuck even when the stair job ran longer than expected. Seven more reviews have landed since February 2026, none negative, and the history behind them runs back to 2019 across six sites. Thumbtack shows 5.0 from 12 ratings, Houzz 5.0 from a single one, and the BBB page is an A+ with accreditation. One thing to settle before signing. The Massachusetts registry shows the company's home improvement contractor registration, number 196006, as expired. BBB's profile lists a different registration, 216812, with a 9/5/2027 expiration date that was not checked against the state. Ask which number is current, and get it in writing with the quote. If the project is masonry you can see from the street — steps, walkways, patios, stone and brick walls, an asphalt driveway — this is a crew with a long, consistent history of exactly that work. Foundation sealing, yard drainage and basement waterproofing come up less often but do come up, including a February 2024 job installing drainage to stop a basement from flooding. Confirm the registration first, then pin the scope and price into the estimate.
We had our puddingstone front retaining wall rebuilt and new stone stairs and trash area built. John and his son Tom were easy to work with, their work was tidy and solid. I appreciated John's ideas to improve our driveway cut out and to create a landing for our stone stairs. I would work with Prostone again if we had other jobs.
We had a great experience with Prostone. John the owner was professional, communicative, and the his crew was very efficient - built the entire patio in just two days! The finished patio looks fantastic, and we are really enjoying the new outdoor space. Highly recommended!
I wish I could give them 6 stars or more. Amazing. Half the other quotes I received and unparalleled artistry on the paved walkway. Downward sloping driveway was cheap asphalt 30 years old. Now it is safe and functional. You "live" with contractors on big jobs. This family team was an absolute hoot. Now I am trying to think of new projects for them!!!
Hired to repair failing brick stairs. Without question the best contractor experience I’ve had. Professional, honest, competitive pricing, and masters of their trade. Pro stone exceeded our expectations and were an absolute pleasure to deal with. We have future masonry projects planned on our home. I cannot imagine using any other contractor other than Tom and his crew.
We've all heard those stories of people having poor experiences with home improvement contractors. Tom and his team at Prostone were the complete opposite of that. By far - this was the BEST home improvement contractor I have ever worked with! They were professional, timely and best part did the highest quality work in a short time. They showed up and finished the job quickly and did excellent work - 5 star work without question. I can't recommend Prostone enough!
