Nauset Environmental Services is an independent indoor-air-quality testing and inspection firm based at 115 Squanto Rd in Eastham, serving Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. The company states it was founded in 1998 by William M. Vaughan, PhD, and has been run since 2023 by Thomas Knight, a Certified Industrial Hygienist, after Vaughan stepped back to an advisory role. NES specializes in mold and moisture investigations, radon testing, and pre-demolition asbestos inspections, and states plainly that it is not affiliated with any remediation contractor and takes no referral fees when it points customers toward remediation work. The written review record is small but consistently positive, spanning 2011 through 2024. In a 2024 review, a client praised the company for showing up on time and returning lab results quickly. In a 2022 review, a homeowner said they were referred to NES by a restoration company for a moisture test and found Dr. Vaughan responsive, fairly priced, and thorough in his reporting. Older reviews from 2011, 2013, and 2021 similarly describe Dr. Vaughan personally handling asbestos and mold/moisture jobs, including a 2013 account of a same-day sample rush ahead of a real-estate closing, and a 2021 account of a homeowner avoiding an unnecessary mold-remediation contract after his inspection ruled it out. Google separately shows a 5-star aggregate from 26 ratings, and BBB lists the company A+ though not BBB-accredited. Because the written record is thin — seven reviews on file, most of them years old — it's worth asking directly about current turnaround times and pricing before booking, since the most detailed accounts describe Dr. Vaughan's own personal service rather than the current owner's. The company's certifications (Certified Industrial Hygienist, EPA AHERA asbestos accreditation, Council-Certified Residential Mold Inspector, Massachusetts Asbestos Inspector) are self-reported on its own site and directory listings rather than verified against a state registry, so it's reasonable to ask to see current credentials directly. NES is a good fit for a homeowner who wants a second opinion independent of any remediation contractor — someone deciding whether a mold, asbestos, or radon problem is real before paying anyone to fix it. Confirm current pricing, turnaround, and who on staff will actually perform the inspection.
Great job. They came when they said they would, and they were easy to work with. Lab test came in quickly, too. Nauset Environmental is a great outfit!
What can I say. I mean where do I start? Professional! Reliable! Honest! Informative! Patient! The list goes on. I was referred to NES inc. from Whalen restoration co. for a test on my home environment for moisture and such. Dr.Vaughn returned a call to me the very next day .He was direct in his plan and set up a appointment for me the next day I was so appreciative to him for his prompt and serious attention. He helped me so much figure out why my home was creating too much moisture and how to remedy it. The pricing is more than fair and the quality of the reports are fantastic. I was able to manage without having to hire a big outside cleanup company. Dr.Vaughn explained everything I needed to know in order to help myself, I’m so thankful for his experience and his willingness to help. I will most definitely recommend this company to everyone I know. Thank you again. Samantha
Dr. Vaughn is an experienced and highly knowledgeable indoor air quality expert. He brings a practical and educational approach to his consultation while providing specific guidelines for improvements that can be made to prevent issues with mold or allergens. He is an excellent and trusted resource.
Oh, what a relief! A home inspector scared me, but Dr. Vaughn came right away and did an inspection. Not only tell me I did not need a mold remediation, he taught
Dr. Vaughan helped me test whether my popcorn ceiling contained asbestos and then further tested it after the results were inconclusive. He is a consummate professional who has also been willing to answer additional questions. I highly recommend NES for any of your asbestos testing needs.
