Nauset Environmental Services says it takes no referral fees or commissions from remediation work and has no affiliation with remediation contractors. Its work is indoor-air-quality testing and inspection: mold and moisture investigations, radon testing and pre-demolition asbestos inspections on Cape Cod. The company is based in Eastham. The company says William M. Vaughan founded it in 1998 and Thomas Knight acquired it in 2023. Knight is now its owner and president; Vaughan remains founder and principal scientist emeritus. Its website identifies Knight as a Certified Industrial Hygienist and lists asbestos-inspection and mold-inspection credentials among the firm's qualifications. In a December 2022 Google review, a homeowner described seeking help with moisture problems after a referral from Whalen Restoration. The customer said Dr. Vaughn returned the call the next day, arranged an appointment for the following day and explained the cause of the moisture and how to address it. The customer praised the pricing and reports and said the explanations helped them manage without hiring a large outside cleanup company. A customer writing in August 2021 described asbestos testing of a popcorn ceiling, followed by further testing after inconclusive results. That customer also praised Dr. Vaughan's willingness to answer additional questions. In an April 2013 HomeAdvisor review, a Realtor described Vaughan shipping a suspected-asbestos sample overnight to a laboratory and requesting a six-hour turnaround; the Realtor said results arrived the next afternoon and showed no asbestos. A February 2024 Google reviewer praised arrival as scheduled, ease of working with the company and quick laboratory results. Google lists five stars from 26 ratings, and BBB assigns an A+ grade. The Vineyard Gazette has reported criticism of Nauset's reporting. The BBB profile still identifies William Vaughan as president and gives an East Orleans PO box and phone number. The company's website describes the 2023 ownership change to Knight and uses its Eastham address and a different phone number.
