Nauset Gardens is a Cape Cod landscape and hardscape company based in Orleans, operated as Sempervirens, Inc. doing business as Nauset Gardens. Founder John S. Berlane leads the company, which describes itself as fully insured and handles everything from property maintenance and lawn care to stonework, plantings, fencing, and irrigation for residential and commercial clients. The clearest picture of the actual work comes from a detailed 2012 review describing a backyard project on a sloped Cape Cod lot: building stairs into the incline, adding a patio, and tying the design together with stone walls, using a design created with a local landscape architect. The reviewer specifically praised Berlane as a hands-on site manager and called the crew's workmanship and professionalism exceptional. Two brief five-star Google reviews, from 2017 and 2019, add further positive but less detailed support. The written record is thin and dated -- only three reviews exist across all sources, and the newest is from 2019 -- alongside a 4.8-star Google average from four ratings and a single five-star Houzz rating. There is no way to speak to job quality since then, so it's worth asking about current crew size, availability, and recent project examples before booking. The company's own site is also mildly inconsistent about its history, citing both 'two decades' and 'nearly 25 years' of client relationships in different places. Nauset Gardens looks like a solid option for Cape Cod homeowners wanting hardscape and landscape design work overseen personally by the owner, though anyone hiring today should confirm current availability and ask for recent references given how little feedback exists from the last several years.

Awesome
Good place
The problem here was 1) how to build stairs into a steep incline to reach a house built into a slope 2) provide a patio to take advantage of the sunny side of the property and 3) tie the whole design together with stone walls true to Cape Cod where the project is located. Using a design created by George Reilly of Land Design Associates of Orleans, Massachusetts, John Berlane and his crew from Nauset Gardens made this a reality. The workmanship and professionalism the crew brought to this job was exceptional. The owner was a hands-on site manager, ensuring that the project was completed to a high standard.
