Twenty Google ratings, every one of them a five, and the same two words keep surfacing in the writing behind them: on time.
Fitzgerald Custom Homes is an Orleans outfit Cape Cod homeowners call when the job is bigger than a weekend — additions, whole-house renovations, and the occasional accessory building dropped into a back yard. The company says Tom Fitzgerald started it in 2007 after a detour through a Chatham glassblowing studio and still runs it as president; the site also claims 25-plus years building on the Cape. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 158097, is active, held under the corporate name T.J. Fitzgerald Custom Homes, Inc. — the "TJF" that turns up in a lot of the reviews.
What people who hired them describe is scope. A 2025 client listed a studio-and-shed accessory building, a rebuilt deck, a relocated driveway and new landscape with bluestone patios and an outdoor shower, all as one project, and credited project manager Chris Boyle with keeping them updated throughout. A 2023 homeowner went further: roofing, siding, two decks, windows and doors, a reconfigured floor plan, a safer staircase, an enlarged kitchen, and soft pine floors sanded back to new. Another, writing in 2024 about a Truro house, had a bathroom and master bedroom remodeled, an addition built, exterior shakes replaced and the roof done — same crew, over years.
Bathrooms recur often enough to count on their own: two remodeled in a review this May, a shower rebuilt in 2024 with photo updates through the job, and a gut renovation of another bathroom in 2024. Money and calendar draw their own praise — a 2023 reviewer called the team "very fair with billing," and a January 2024 client said prices were competitive and the work finished on schedule.
The trade association has noticed too. Cape Cod LIFE reported in 2026 that a phased Chatham renovation by the company was presented a BRICC Award by the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod, and a 2023 BRICC awards listing shows gold going to Fitzgerald Custom Homes with SV Design.
Two things worth raising on the first call. The tenure claim is muddled: the site advertises 25-plus years while dating the company's start to 2007, so ask which number belongs to the company and which to Tom's own time in the trades. And every one of those 20 ratings is a five, which is a thin base for judging how they handle a job that goes sideways — the closest thing to a wrinkle anyone has written down is a 2023 client who mentioned a tile backlog and a problem key, both, they said, sorted out with their input.
