New England Stair Company builds staircases, and a 2025 Google review describes one in detail: an elegantly curved staircase with thick rustic oak treads and tapered wrought iron balusters, made for a 170-year-old barn in a VT renovation project. In that 2025 review, the customer said Patrick McDonald worked from their inspiration photos, planned numerous site visits and created detailed sketches before the staircase was finished. The company says it has been providing stairway solutions to the building industry since 1975. On Houzz it describes itself as a family owned and operated business located in Fairfield County, Connecticut, that primarily serves Connecticut and Westchester County, New York, and works with other professionals to design, engineer, fabricate and install stairways. Its Better Business Bureau page lists custom designed stairs including traditional colonial, winder, elliptical, freeform, contemporary and box staircases, and the BBB grades it A+. Houzz lists a 2012 HOBI Award for Best Interior Feature. On Google it holds 4.3 stars from 17 ratings. A 2023 customer said NESC created two sets of stairs for them and called the company timely, responsive and professional. A 2024 customer said the people there helped with loading their order. A 2022 reviewer said whoever answered the phone was very rude. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0604871, as active, held by New England Stair Co Inc.
Patrick McDonald at New England Stair is a master at staircase design, creation and installation and a pleasure to work with. We asked Patrick to partner with us to tackle a tough task- to help us to develop a vision from inspiration photos for a staircase in our tired old VT barn renovation project. From the start, Patrick listened, knew exactly what we were looking for, unpromptedly planned numerous site visits, created detailed sketches and employed his expert eye for detail to execute a finished staircase that is truly a breathtaking, sculptural work of art! The staircase is elegantly curved with thick rustic oak treads to match wide plank oak flooring with tapered wrought iron ballusters- all appropriate for a 170 year old barn. His work truly transformed our space and provided such an elegant, rustic focal point and a majestic counterpoint to a large fieldstone fireplace at the opposite end. Thank you Patrick and New England Stair for your time, expertise and craftsmanship.
The people were so nice and helpful. They helped me with loading my order. Great service
Timely, responsive and professional. We could not be happier with both sets of stairs that NESC created. Will return for our next project. Thank you!
