Nick's Moving Company is a family-run, locally owned mover based in Cambridge, handling residential and commercial moves, packing, and storage across Greater Boston. The Better Business Bureau lists Nicholas Lawrence as owner, in business since 1987 — 39 years — with an A+ letter grade, though the business is not BBB-accredited. Many reviews over the years describe Nick and his crews as responsive, careful, and good at solving last-minute problems. In a 2024 review, one customer said the team went beyond the job, moving extra furniture to the street and to a neighboring house; in a 2022 review, another described a large sofa carried through a second-floor window in minutes on a bitterly cold day. Several reviewers say they've used the company more than once over the years. But a recurring thread of complaints about fees and scheduling runs alongside those accounts. In a 2024 review, a customer said fees weren't disclosed before being charged; in a 2023 review, another described being charged extra time beyond a stated minimum without clear explanation; and reviews from 2021 and 2022 describe hours-long delays with little communication, including one that called the experience a nightmare. Most seriously, a 2021 review said the customer felt coerced into leaving a positive review while the company still held their belongings. A review posted in March 2026 also described an unresolved dispute over an overcharge from a 2007 move. Given how often fees and timing come up as points of friction, get every charge — including any minimum-hour or extra-time policy — in writing before the move, and confirm the arrival window directly on moving day. With decades in business and plenty of specific, positive accounts, Nick's can clearly do the job well — but the recurring billing disputes and the one serious account of coercion make it worth pinning down pricing and timing in writing rather than by phone.
“Nicks movers /Medford”
“Nick's Moving Company in Cambridge is handling requests it typically sees in May. ... We’ve got pretty much three or four crews working around the clock”
“the friendly people at Nick’s said it wouldn’t be a problem. And it wasn’t. The courteous, energetic moving team got the job done quickly, safely, and efficiently, with no complaints about fourth-floor walkups.”
Amazing worker. Now’s how to get the job done & in a timely manner!
Nicks was easy to book, took care of all my furniture and boxes in a quick 3.5 hours! Would recommend.
Nick's Moving provided services for us back on October 1, 2007. They charged us $277 more than the price that they quoted us. After numerous phone calls, the dispute was "resolved" Dave told us he had mailed a check for $264.50. The check never arrived so we gave up. This was very disappointing because they acknowledged they had overcharged and agreed to reimburse us. What a waste of my time and theirs.
I am giving four stars, instead of five, as we had a misunderstanding about fees. However, after some back-and-forth, we came to a compromise. In the end, I was impressed by their willingness to figure things out in a way that left us both feeling more understood. With that, I do recommend using Nick's. They took care in the move to ensure nothing was broken and they were hard-working and courteous.
Extremely rude office, the moving personnel were late by an hour, no even an apology
