NR Concrete (Nelson B. Rego, Fall River, MA) has a long, sharply divided set of reviews spanning 2017 through 2023 across BuildZoom and Houzz, with BuildZoom flagging the profile 'ALERT' and assigning it a score of 0. Several detailed, severe complaints describe abandoned or defective work. In a 2017 review, a customer said the company took a deposit for a Southeastern Massachusetts project in January of that year and disappeared without finishing it, later discovering other customers with the same experience. A separate 2017 review said a finished patio developed several large cracks within about three weeks, alleging no gravel or compaction sand was used before concrete was poured directly on the ground. Another 2017 review alleged concrete was poured directly over grass with a crooked, double-stamped pattern and visible tool marks in the surface. In a 2018 review, a customer said they paid $14,000 for a yard project that was left unfinished, with the contractor avoiding calls and texts for three months. Two more 2018 reviews allege the business operates under other names, including Eli Rego, and that a positive review elsewhere was reposted by the owner under a different name. In a 2023 review, a customer who hired the company for three projects said the concrete wasn't dyed the requested color, the stairs weren't stamped and dyed as agreed, and workers left trash in the yard. Set against this, several reviews describe genuinely positive experiences. In a 2020 review, a customer said Nelson took on a basement-floor and knee-wall project that other companies had turned down, quoting $7,000 less than the only other bid. Other 2020 reviews praised a patio and walkway as beautiful and completed within a few days, calling Nelson upfront and only requiring payment once work was fully finished. A 2018 review praised a stamped-concrete walkway and fire pit as beautiful, crediting the owner's suggestion to use stamped concrete. BuildZoom shows a Rhode Island Residential Contractor license (#27019) with inconsistent status across its own listings — one entry marks it active but expired since August 2007, another marks it inactive and at one point cancelled — and notes this was not independently verified. Given the volume and severity of the complaints describing abandoned jobs, defective concrete, and alleged use of multiple business names, a homeowner considering this business should proceed with real caution, verify current licensing directly, and ask for recent, verifiable references before paying any deposit.
Hired for three projects. Did not dye the concrete with the color asked. Left Duncan Donut cups in yard after working. Did not stamp and dye the face of the stairs. Said "you can't do that" but Youtube clearly shows how to do it. Then the contractor stamped and dyed the other steps...so clearly you CAN do it. Only stamps and dyes the surface. Not the sides of the concrete. Only has two stamps so you are stuck with a very limited selection. Finally, made a concrete mess all over the yard with no clean-up. Concrete splats as far as 20 feet away from the work site. Concrete found up on my rocks, poured in the street drain, and a HUGE pour of concrete just outside my yard near the street. Lastly, cancelled 4 days to finish the job which was not pleasing.
I didn't have an opportunity to work with Nelson because we went with our repeat contractor but he was professional, knowledgeable, on-time and forthright about the job.
Nelson Rego took on a job for me that no other company wanted. The only other company willing to do the work was 7k more than Nelson's quote. For this project he poured a new basement floor along with new knee walls to support my stone foundation. Project was done because I dug my basement out 3 feet to gain head height. Job came together fast and looks great. While he was here I asked for a price for a stamped concrete driveway and some walk ways and I couldn't say no to the price he gave me. He fixed the entire grade to the front of my house, prepped the area perfectly and poured and stamped over 3000 square feet of area. It is a show piece and truly shows how much pride he takes in his work. Neighbors have all been over to compliment the work. Extremely pleased with the outcome and price of this project
Nelson was upfront with me. We ended up doing a patio and added a walkway to the the driveway and was so pleased with outcome . Thank you guys for everything
I had a patio done and looks beautiful and done within a few days.
