Ocean State General Contractors, LLC describes itself on its Houzz profile as a construction company established in 2019 and family owned and operated. A 2023 Google customer said Steve disappeared in the midst of their bathroom renovation "with 14000.00 in his pocket" and did not pay his contractors, so they would not return. That 2023 customer said they had been told the job would take ten days, and at 26 days had no workers and no functional shower, tub, sink or toilet. The same 2023 customer wrote that their recovery was to hire another at a cost to them, and that they had a functional bathroom 15 weeks after starting. A 2022 Google reviewer wrote that they performed almost none of the contracted work, did not pull permits even though it was in the contract, and abandoned the project with less than a third of the work done. A 2022 Houzz customer wrote that a porch job supposed to be completed in June of 2021 was still not finished in October 2022, that he took a lot of money up front, and that work was slow and had to be redone constantly. A 2022 Google reviewer said he was supposed to show up but never did, and that there was excuse after excuse. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 195920, is expired on the state registry.

***BUYER BEWARE*** As a reviewer as well as a five year Elite YELPER, we are so excited to share accolades and encouragements with others on companies. Here we have a company that is unreliable and a master of the bait and switch game. Steve, disappeared in the midst of our bathroom renovations with 14000.00 in his pocket. He did not pay his contractors and therefore they would not return. We were told this would take all of ten days and here we were at 26 days, no workers,we no functional shower/ tub, sink or toilet! He contended he was ill and yet he was not the working force here, the contractors he hired were and the reality was he was not passing on these two down payments to them. Our recovery was to hire another and at a cost to us. 15 weeks after starting, with further loss of revenue we had a functional bathroom. We will be filing with the Rhode Island Board of Contractors on Ocean State General Contractors but for you my friends, DO NOT HIRE STEVE and do not hire Ocean State as you will be left holding the bag and the cost.
They performed almost none of the contracted work and what they did was subpar. Did not pull permits as required even though it was in the contract. Abandoned the project with less than a third of the work done. Steve is a liar and a cheat. Do not engage this business.
This was supposed to be completed in June of 2021. We're now in October of 2022, it is still not finished. He took a lot of money up front and it has been like trying to herd cats to get him to show up and do his job. He doesn't often show up his people do, and they have no idea what to do without him. Work is slow and has to be redone constantly. I feel like I'm getting a second hand porch for the price of a new one. Currently it's just finishing details on the porch, like making what was supposed to be the water type porch actually watertight and he will not show up when he says he will. This is costing me time and money to make myself available for the times he is not showing up. Save yourself time and angst do not use this contractor.
Was suppose to show up but never did I reached out to him and there was excuse after excuse. Very unprofessional
DO NOT USE FOR ANY PROJECT!!
