The company says it has been in business 41 years, and its stated service area includes Burlington, Essex, Hinesburg and Shelburne. A recent customer said Patterson was responsive when they needed a last-minute delivery. A 2025 customer with a curvy hillside driveway said the company has worked around their plowing issues and made sure they had fuel. A 2019 Reddit commenter called Patterson's, "based out of Richmond," pretty good. A recent customer had a new furnace installed while switching from oil to propane, and said the Patterson team walked them through the process from the site visit and quote through installation. A 2025 reviewer wrote that Jim Racine and Phil Sadeweicz installed a new Roth oil tank and a plate exchange hot water tank in the basement. In a 2024 review, a customer who woke up with no heat said technician Micky arrived within two hours and the igniter job was completed within an hour. A 2023 customer said they were charged for a tank swap they had been told would be free, and the tank was locked out before they could pay. A 2023 reviewer said they were told they could not receive deliveries without changing their tank enclosure, until a technician visited and saw no issue with it. A 2023 customer objected to a new-customer application that required a credit card before any service was scheduled. A 2021 Reddit commenter said Patterson charged a tank rental fee as a per-gallon surcharge on each fill-up.

We recently had a new furnace installed by Patterson, and we couldn’t be happier with the entire experience. It was time for a new system, and the Patterson team walked us through the process from the initial site visit and quote right through to installation. They also took the time to explain our options and helped us feel confident in making the switch from oil to propane. Every person we dealt with was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. The installation technicians kept me updated throughout the process, which was greatly appreciated. I wouldn’t hesitate to have Patterson do more work at our house, and we definitely plan to continue using them for our furnace cleaning and maintenance going forward. I had the best experience working the guys over at Patterson Fuels. They were really helpful with my furnace issue. I really don’t understand any of this but they took time to answer all my questions. As a first time home homeowner I really appreciate their help and their expertise of all things heat.
