Paul Chavez Construction is a permit shop before it is a review shop. Out of 170 Ferry Street in Everett it has filed 130 building permits, 15 of them in the last three years, at a typical permit value of about $32,700. BBB files the same street address and the same phone number under Chavez Construction Corporation, with Mr. Segundo Chavez as president and six employees; BuildZoom's permit records name Alberto, Paul and Victor Chavez as the owners. A family operation, in other words. The filings are where the range shows. Between 2020 and 2025 the company pulled work in Everett, Malden, Brookline, South Boston and Chestnut Hill, and the top end is genuinely big — a $520,000 four-unit gut in South Boston, a $655,000 rehab and a $550,000 new single-family build in Chestnut Hill, and a $195,000 kitchen-and-two-bathroom remodel in Brookline in 2025. BuildZoom's own reading of the filings is that kitchens and multi-room remodels dominate. Houzz puts a typical job at $20,000 to $50,000, which is the band most homeowners would land in. What you will not find is a customer voice. BuildZoom states plainly that it holds no reviews for this contractor, and Houzz invites you to write the first one. BBB grades the business A+ while stating it is not a BBB Accredited Business — two separate facts, and the A+ is BBB's own grade rather than anyone's verdict on the work. BuildZoom's score of 99 is calculated from permits and licensing, not from customers. How long they have been at it depends on who you ask. BBB records the business as started 1/1/1999, incorporated 5/5/2015, and 27 years old; Houzz carries the company's own line that Segundo has led Chavez Construction since 1998; BuildZoom's blurb says 22 years in the field, which would put the start nearer 2004. Those three do not reconcile, and the incorporation date sits a decade and a half after the claimed start. On licensing, read the directories as claims and nothing more. BuildZoom lists an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #184804, and an active construction supervisor licence, CS-106843, which Houzz lists too; it also carries two older HIC numbers, #127802 and #141511, both shown inactive and described as at one point cancelled. None of that was checked against the state registry here. For a gut renovation, an addition or a multi-room remodel, the filing history is deep and you can confirm it yourself at the building department. Ask for the current registration number and recent homeowner references directly — there is no published customer record to lean on, and the towns Houzz names as the service area are not the towns the permits are in.
