The permit trail reads more like an exterior crew than a remodeling firm. Of the jobs BuildZoom lists from 2017 through 2020, most are re-siding and window replacement — vinyl siding on several Westford streets, more of the same in Methuen and Revere. The bigger interior work is there too: a kitchen valued at $62,432, two bathrooms at the same Fletcher Rd house, and a garage addition with two bedrooms above it. Houzz describes the same range in the company's own words — windows, doors, bathrooms, kitchens, decks, painting, siding. The thing to settle before calling is the registration. BuildZoom shows home improvement contractor number 184510 as inactive, with an expiry of 04-13-2022 and a note that Massachusetts Consumer Affairs had it cancelled at some point. The company still prints that same number on Houzz, alongside a construction supervisor licence, CSL# 109264. Neither was checked against the state registry here, and BuildZoom's own status notes are not always right. Siding, window and kitchen work is not exempt from HIC registration in Massachusetts, so ask Paul directly and confirm the current status at Mass.gov before any money changes hands. The second gap is simpler: nobody has reviewed them. BBB, Houzz and BuildZoom each publish an empty review section, and the A+ that BBB assigns sits on a profile the bureau plainly states is not accredited — two separate things, not one endorsement. Houzz also says the shop has over 30 years of carpentry and construction experience, which sits against a 2014 company start; that likely describes Paul's own career rather than the business, and it is worth asking him to lay out. There is a real permitted work history here — town-issued, dated, and mostly finished siding and window jobs in Westford and Methuen. What is missing is anyone saying publicly how those jobs went. If you call, ask for addresses from the last year and speak to those owners yourself.
