Verified record
Penney Electrical is a family-owned Stoneham electrical contractor that says it's been doing residential and commercial wiring, panel upgrades, generator installation and lighting work since 1984. Its Massachusetts electrician's license is active and verified against the state registry, held by Joseph W. Penney, and BuildZoom independently confirms the same Master Electrician license as active with 85 permitted projects on file — a genuinely deep body of documented work behind a thin public review count. A separate New Hampshire license is held by Joseph M. Penney, consistent with a business that's stayed in the family across a generation. The written record itself is short — nine reviews since 2017 — but consistently positive and specific. One customer describes losing power entirely, being the only affected unit in the building, and getting a callback and a fix (a failed switch in the main electrical room) within the hour. Another, living alone, specifically praises the crew for being trustworthy rather than trying to take advantage — the kind of detail that matters for anyone letting a contractor into their home unaccompanied. Reviews describe both small residential jobs, like recessed lighting, and larger commercial electrical work handled by the same team, with the owner, Joe, described as communicative and organized through the process. For panel upgrades, generator installation, lighting work, or an electrical emergency in the Stoneham/MetroWest area, Penney Electrical's licensing and documented project history are solid even though the public review count is small — the kind of company that seems to run more on repeat and referral business than online reviews.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Penney Electrical Corporation. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
Flush mounts, pendants, chandeliers — hung on existing boxes.

Sean and Jake are the best! Professional, expedient, thoughtful, trustworthy and they leave the premises like new! What more could you ask for? And this is from a woman who lives alone and often times contractors try to take advantage. Not in the case, it was the exact opposite. So, if you’re looking for a great electrician who really cares, you found the place.
Excellent work and very fair prices. George did the work at our house on two occasion and was very accommodating and professional. Highly recommend
Good Service
Penney Electric team is the best! I had lost power and was the only unit in my building. Call Penney Electric and they responded promptly without any hesitation. It turned out to be a switch had malfunctioned in the main electrical room and power came back on within an hour. Penney Electric does work for our condo complex and have always been professional. I would not hesitate to call them again for any work.
Joe Penney is great to work with. He has an amazing team and has saved us in many emergency situations. He is great for smaller residential issues and larger commercial ones. Would recommend 100%!
