Thirty-seven years in, Pioneer Landscapes is the Easthampton outfit people call when a yard needs rebuilding, not just mowing. The company says it has worked Western Massachusetts since 1989, and its own list runs from lawn maintenance and fertilization through hardscapes, masonry, custom construction, landscape lighting and snow and ice management. Its president told BusinessWest in 2017 that resort-style full-yard poolscapes can run $80,000 to $150,000, and that he takes on only a couple a year. The through-line in what customers write is people. Reviewers name the crew leads: a 2025 customer asked for Lex specifically after he had tackled an oversized yew; another said Lex and her team got her mother's yard back in order within a week of the call; a June 2026 reviewer credited Alexis with designing and installing an underground sprinkler system, then staying reachable for programming questions afterwards. In July 2025 a homeowner wrote what they called a rare complimentary letter after Lenny and Alvia repaired leaking irrigation valves on a hot day. The recent stretch reads like that too — old mulch stripped and replaced with the beds edged and cleaned up, a driveway re-graded and drivable again within hours, snow crews who shovelled out the mailbox. The earlier years are rougher, and worth knowing about. Two people in 2022 described the same problem from the sales end: one waited nearly three months of weekly calls for a ten-word estimate and then got the runaround on scheduling, another said the estimator arrived late and never followed up. A customer of five years wrote in 2021 that a $375 shrub trim left arborvitae tops lopped off and the shrubs lopsided, with $100 off the bill offered as the remedy. In August 2024 a homeowner who spent $12,000 on river-rock beds found them full of weeds the following spring after being told the ground cloth would prevent it, and got no reply for two months. In February 2025 two snow customers said the plow left the front step uncleared and a car packed in behind compacted ice. One more thing to raise on the call: its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is expired. Landscaping-only work doesn't require that registration in Massachusetts, but this company advertises hardscapes, masonry and custom construction — so ask where that leaves it before signing anything sizeable. Pioneer fits the bigger project — the patio-and-firepit rebuild, the irrigation system, the kind of stonework a conservation trust hired it for on the Mutter's Field trail in 2016 — better than it fits someone who needs a fast, low-touch quote. Get the estimate timeline in writing, and pin down the weed-suppression and snow-clearing scope before the season starts.
“He knows this because of the number and nature of the phone calls to his Easthampton-based business, Pioneer Landscapes, and also because of the turnout at the company’s booth at the recent Home & Garden Show at the Eastern States Exposition and the eagerness of many visitors to do something with their backyards.”
“EASTHAMPTON — Pioneer Landscapes Inc. announced the addition of Master Gardener Kenneth “Ken” Conway to its team, strengthening the company’s focus on expert horticulture, sustainable design, and client education throughout Western Mass. and Northern Conn.”
“Brian Campedelli, owner of Pioneer Landscapes in Easthampton, said his crews are already busy finishing several jobs that carried over from last year due to the unprecedented growth his company experienced in 2022.”
“A range of employers set up at the school, including Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Pioneer Landscapes, Wright Architectural Millwork, Six Flags and Local Burger, as well as the University of Massachusetts Amherst police and the Army, Navy and Marines.”
“Often, that means well into the six figures, said Brian Campedelli, president of Pioneer Landscapes Inc. in Easthampton. The higher-end projects — full-yard transformations that center around a resort-like poolscape — may run between $80,000 and $150,000, and Campedelli may tackle only a couple of those a year, but there are wide variations in pricing depending on what features a customer needs to have.”
I've been using Pioneer Landscape for many years. The crew is great and knowledgeable. They knew exactly what my lawn needed and the products they use are great. My yard was in such disrepair due to a variety of factors and they fixed them all. I've worked with Alexis the past few years . She installed my underground sprinkler system and did the placement and Design from start to finish. Was available for any questions I had and has always helped me with programming or understanding placement or any adjustments that I need. She is very knowledgeable and I highly recommend her for all of your lawn care needs.
Their crew is awesome, friendly. They were working on a person's house trimming bushes and my car was in my buildings parking lot really close to one of the bushes they trimmed and stuff got all over the hood of my car. The crew got their blower and blew off not only my car but also the car next to mine and all around my car in the parking lot as well as the parking lot. Where I live the maintenance staff does not even do that or clean off the porches or sidewalks. I can not recommend this company STRONGLY, or HIGH enough!! If you are in need of landscaping work PLEASE CALL THEM!!!
Pioneer Landscapes came and removed all of the old mulch and replaced it with the new mulch, edged it all and they did a great job. They were polite and professional. They left everything cleaned up properly. It was a pleasure doing business with them. I would definitely hire them again.
I experienced Pioneer Landscaping first at the home show at the Big E. Let me say that Brian is the nicest guy and his display of lawn equipment and flowers, trees and plants was exquisite! You won't be disappointed choosing Pioneer Landscapes for all of your lawn care needs!
I've been in the construction industry for 35+ years and I can tell you first hand this is a top notch company that has solid pricing and customer service. Their work is clean and efficient. I know good from bad from years of experience and you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend!
