The written history is small and it is old. Six accounts exist across Google, Angi and HomeAdvisor, running 2019 to 2021, and the Angi and HomeAdvisor listings are the same profile mirrored — the same 3.9 from four ratings, the same About copy, the same 2019 reviews — so they corroborate nothing. The praise, when it comes, is about carpentry and decks rather than lawns: in a May 2019 review a homeowner wrote that "Roger explained what and why he was doing every step of the way," threw in a storm door, and cleaned up; a March 2019 customer said the work "has held up well including the hardware." A July 2021 Google reviewer credited the garden knowledge.
The part worth pausing on is the deposit. A customer's account, posted to Angi in September 2019 and again on Google in January 2020, describes paying a large deposit in April 2019 for porch work, the crew never showing, a promised refund that never arrived, and five months of unreturned calls before the customer says they took legal action. That is one person's account, not a court record — but it is specific, it names dates, and it sits under the same address as the rest of the profile. It is the reason a 3.7 on Google and a 3.9 on Angi do not add up to a comfortable read.
Before booking, get the scope, the schedule and the deposit terms in writing, and ask what the refund policy is if the job can't be done. Ask, too, what the current crew looks like: the newest written account is from 2021, so nothing here speaks to how the company runs today. Landscaping-only work is exempt from Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, but the profiles also advertise decks, siding, masonry and painting — if that's the job you're hiring for, ask to see the registration.
