Nearly fifty years on, R & R Window Contractors still works out of the same Easthampton address — and the work it is known for is not the kind you call about a drafty bedroom window. By its own description this is a commercial building-envelope shop: curtain walls, storefronts, skylights, aluminum wall panels and interior glass and glazing, on projects across New England. The clearest outside read on them comes from their own industry rather than from homeowners. Associated Builders and Contractors of Massachusetts gave the company an Excellence in Construction Eagle Award for Amherst College's Aliki Perroti & Seth Frank Lyceum, reported in November 2024, and an earlier Eagle Award in 2018 for Assembly Row Block 6 in Somerville — a job a 2018 account described as installing 1,582 windows into precast concrete panels on a 20-story building. Glass Magazine's 2022 Top 50 Glaziers list put them 34th nationally. The company tells its own story plainly: founded in November 1978 by brothers-in-law Roger Fuller and Rick Hinton, family owned and operated, and — it says — a Certified Women's Business Enterprise by Massachusetts, with Tabby Smith as president and director of operations. Those are the company's own statements, not something confirmed against a registry here. BuildZoom lists a Connecticut Mechanical Corporation registration for them, which is that directory's claim rather than a verification. Two things belong on the table before anyone signs. A 2014 item from the National Alliance for Fair Contracting reported allegations that R&R failed to pay the proper prevailing wage and failed to submit true and accurate payroll records on several public works projects around the state. Separately, a site that republishes U.S. Department of Labor enforcement records describes a federal OSHA inspection of the Easthampton facility that produced one citation. Both are fair to raise directly with them. There is no customer review history to weigh — BuildZoom's profile for them carries none — so what's left is a long tenure, recognition from their own trade on large institutional and multifamily work, and two labor-and-safety items. For a general contractor or developer scoping a glazing package, that's a real portfolio. For a homeowner replacing windows on a house, the first question is whether they take residential work at all.
