Rainbow Movers has been moving people out of the Boston area since 1918, when James McEnaney came home from the 42nd Infantry — the "Rainbow Division" — and started hauling with one horse and a wagon. The company still carries his name and, it says, is still run by the McEnaney family, with Erin McEnaney listed as principal. Today it is a 24-employee operation at 19 National Drive in Franklin, working as a North American Van Lines agent, which is how it handles interstate and international moves. The service list runs local and long-distance household moves, packing, senior moves, corporate relocations and employee moves, commercial jobs, and both short- and long-term warehouse storage. It names Boston, Franklin, Framingham, Norfolk, Attleboro, Worcester and Providence as the areas it covers. The Better Business Bureau grades it A+ and has its start date as 1918; it is not BBB accredited. The company also states a WBE certification, which is its own claim rather than something confirmed against a certifying registry, and publishes U.S. DOT No. 1014961 and MDPU 6152. Its scale has grown by acquisition too: a 2001 Seacoast newspaper report described a New Hampshire moving family, the Allards, selling their business to Rainbow Movers of Franklin while staying on in management. One more thing that shows up in the public record: Move For Hunger credits the company with rescuing 231 pounds of food from its customers and providing close to 200 meals during the pandemic. What is absent is customers. No reviews have surfaced on Google, the BBB page, or any directory, so nothing here tells you how a move actually went. Sensible to get a written binding estimate and ask for two recent local references before booking — the century of history and the A+ grade say the company is established, not how your day will go.
