Nine customers wrote about Rick Berry between 2005 and 2014, and nothing has been written since. That gap is the first thing to know about this Ipswich carpentry and remodeling firm — the praise is specific, consistent, and more than a decade old. What people hired them for was mostly bathrooms. A 2006 reviewer had a walk-in pantry turned into a half bath and portico columns replaced; another that same year described an antiquated bathroom rebuilt as an accessible one with cathedral ceilings. A 2008 kitchen remodel grew mid-project into roof and gutter work, new siding, a laundry room and a gas fireplace, and that homeowner credited Berry with pricing each change before it happened. The same two or three names recur across those years — Rick himself, a helper named Greg, a Chris. Reviewers in 2006 mention early starts and spotless daily cleanup, and one said the final bill landed inside the estimate. The lone Houzz review, from 2014, covers a front rail, clapboards, exterior painting and a roof, calls the pricing reasonable, and gives four stars rather than five. Two things to sort out before calling. Houzz lists a Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (113611) and a construction supervisor licence (CS-06634), but those numbers are the directory's listing and nothing here confirms them with the state — worth checking both with the Office of Consumer Affairs, along with the company's own claim on Angi of EPA and Massachusetts lead-safe certification, which carries real weight on pre-1978 houses. Angi also still shows a Saugus address that the Houzz profile has moved on from. For a small, owner-run outfit for a bathroom or kitchen on the North Shore — Middleton sits inside the 25-town area it lists — this is a plausible call. Ask for references from the last two years, because its written history doesn't reach that far.
Rick has done a few projects for me: front rail replaced; clapboards repaired/replaced; house painted; roof replaced. He did a great job, very professional. The subcontractors he used were also very professional. Reasonably priced.
Rick, Chris and associates are beyond amazing. They renovated our entire house and we cannot say enough about the quality of their work. From the moment we met Rick we knew we had found a one of a kind contractor. From start to finish, Rick was actively involved in every aspect of the project. Before we even signed a contract he met with us several times to discuss the scope of the project. He gave us great advice and was involved in every decision. He was always there when we needed him and he never, ever disappointed us. Do not hesitate to contract with Rick. He's absolutely the best!
Richard Berry is a true professional. He was the perfect choice when we needed a general contractor for our large scale kitchen remodel . Richard was not the typical general contractor; he was very involved in every aspect of the project. He was our design consultant, budget controller, advisor and now friend. During our kitchen project additional improvements became necessary or were requested by us to include: "necessary" roof and gutter work to "requested" new external siding, creating a laundry room, expanding a closet, installing a gas fireplace and installing a flat screen TV. You see, Richard can make it all happen. Richard handled all additional requests and schedule changes with ease, ensuring that we understood how the changes would affect our original budget and completion date. We are thrilled with our gorgeous, new high quality kitchen as well as all the additional work that Richard and his team completed; our neighbors are all envious. Richard and his team were such a pleasure to work with; they began and ended each day with a positive, upbeat attitude. The team kept dust and disruption to a minimum and were very considerate not to invade our space or privacy during the entire project. I would highly recommend Richard Berry as a General Contractor for your kitchen, bath or any home project. Carol Williams Topsfield, MA
Rick did a fantastic job! We would highly recommend him to anyone planning remodeling / home improvements. He built a 1/2 bath right off our kitchen out of what was a walk-in pantry and also made repairs to our portico which included replacing the columns. Both jobs were completed on or before schedule. The final price was within the estimate and we were thrilled with the results. He showed up every day bright and early and when he left, the place was spotless. Besides being honest and very hard-working, Rick is meticulous and his workmanship is quite impressive. For Rick Berry & Assoc, a very enthusiastic thumbs up!!!!
My family is very pleased with the outcome of our bathroom remodeling job. Changes to the original design added extra time to the finish date, but when doing any type of construction to your home you should always count on more time being needed to finish the job. The end result was worth the extra time and Rick, Greg and his subs were courteous, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. We were able to stay within our budget even with the changes that were made and that was appreciated. We would consider this company for future projects.
