Roots & Rocks Landscape Artisans is a Groton-based landscape design-build firm founded by Corey Magliozzi in 2008 and joined by Dan Gladu in 2011. The company says Corey and Dan run the business themselves, combining design with hands-on construction, and focuses on natural stone, planting, and outdoor spaces shaped to their New England settings. Its website reports 18 years in business and names Groton as its base. Customers describe specific work rather than generic praise. A 2026 Google reviewer highlighted a front-walkway and landscape transformation; a December 2025 reviewer described two custom-stonework projects and praised the precision, communication, and fit of locally sourced stone; and a 2024 reviewer detailed a redesigned lakefront patio with planting, an outdoor cooking area, seating, fire pit, and improved views. Houzz shows 12 five-star reviews and 23 projects, including granite patios, garden steps, boulder walls, water features, and outdoor living areas. The strongest fit is a homeowner seeking a designed-and-built landscape with custom stonework, planting, patios, or an integrated outdoor living area. The company lists a wide menu that includes drainage, excavation, masonry, pools, lighting, kitchens, and structures, so the exact scope, materials, schedule, and which elements Corey and Dan will perform should be confirmed before booking. The business serves Groton and many surrounding Massachusetts towns, plus parts of southern New Hampshire, and says it will consider projects outside that area when the scope fits.
Dan and Corey did an outstanding design replacing our front walkway and landscaping that transformed our front yard. Neighbors and passerby’s stop and admire the work. We couldn’t be more pleased.
We’ve used Corey and Dan/ Roots & Rocks twice now for custom stonework, and each time the experience was great. Their craftsmanship is truly a form of outdoor art, and I believe they are one of the few companies in the area capable of executing this level of custom work with such precision and creativity. We live in a natural, wooded setting where locally sourced, natural stone is far more appropriate than concrete or manufactured materials, and their work blends into the landscape perfectly. From the start, I felt confident I was going to get exactly what I envisioned. They accommodated a tricky schedule during our in-progress home addition, communicated clearly, and delivered results that exceeded my already high expectations. I’m the type of person who needs to feel a project couldn’t have come out any better once complete, and that’s exactly how I feel. I’ve followed their projects on Instagram for years, and now seeing their work at my own home, I can say it’s every bit as impressive in person. A third project is already in the works. We highly recommend for anyone looking for truly custom, nature-appropriate, timeless stonework that’s guaranteed to draw plenty of compliments.
My husband and I decided to begin our property renovation journey with an outdoor facelift. We had an existing patio, but it was poorly constructed, didn’t utilize the space efficiently, and was, well, just plain ugly. This lack of a proper patio was particularly frustrating, given it overlooked our lake. After reviewing some of their work, it was obvious to my husband and I that we should employ Corey and Dan with Roots & Rocks Landscape Artisans. Their ability to take the quintessential New England outdoor space and tailor and elevate it with their designs (that aligned to their client’s specific grounds and tastes) was apparent and impressive. We weren’t looking at “landscapers;” we were looking at artists who could embrace and enhance the nature around us. And that is certainly what they did. Corey and Dan came to the table with, in my opinion, one of the most important skills folks in business can have; clear communication. They asked what we liked, what we didn’t, what we wanted to use the space for, and so much more. They were responsive, attentive, and actively listened to our ideas. They took our thoughts and molded them into a stunning design built with the knowledge only they could give, influenced by our hopes. It maximized the potential of our lakefront property, which came with waterfront regulations. It met our needs but exceeded our expectations. We trusted them full heartedly, and knew we could give them the reins. They gave us a space we could build and enjoy a family with. It married some of the clean lines I like, with the organic and natural feel my husband leans towards. The patio looks like it had always been there, having risen out of the dirt as a perfect little Eden. Framed with lush grasses and shrubbery, it gave the right amount of privacy, sun, and shade. It gave us an outdoor cooking area, comfortable seating for many, a place for a cozy fire pit, and optimized our lake view. We enjoy it day and night; spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The process with Roots and Rocks was seamless, start to finish. Corey and Dan demonstrated transparent communication, expert knowledge of plants and stone, efficiency, flexibility, and respect. They delivered quality, craftsmanship, but most importantly, a space that made our house feel like a home. We will use Roots & Rocks to the end.
