S & S Paving says on its website that it has been in business 43 years, and it names Rochester as its service area. A recent customer says Larry, Russ, and crew replaced their driveway and were super-efficient, polite and professional throughout. Another recent customer says Russ and his crew turned an old dirt driveway into a smooth looking one, even matching a small piece up to a walkway the customer had previously installed. In a 2024 review, a customer said S&S extended a small piece of culvert so the driveway would be wider at the end, and cleared the topsoil and dropped gravel for a camper spot in addition to the driveway paving, with the work done as scheduled and promised. In a 2021 review, a customer who got quotes from a few local companies to pave their driveway said S&S gave a detailed estimate, and that they were able to level everything out so the customer no longer gets water pooling towards the house. A recent customer who paid over $17,000 for a driveway describes a different outcome: they say the 18-foot width they paid for is two inches short in some spots and 6-8 inches short in others, that the driveway drains poorly with nearly 3 inches of water pooling next to it after a light rain, that the walkway got 1.5 inches on top of the existing asphalt instead of being removed, and that sections of lawn were cut out and left as is. The same customer says Larry told them, "just know, if you press me on the edges or the width, I will charge you for the extra asphalt."
If you plan on hiring this company, make sure you’re on site watching what they’re doing, otherwise they will take shortcuts. From looks standpoint the driveway looks ok, but from a practicality standpoint it is poor. There were concerns I brought up prior and during the job that I was assured would be addressed. The width that I was quoted and paid for does not meet our agreement, I paid for 18 feet wide, in some spots it is only two inches short, in others it is between 6-8 inches short, so it is uneven as well. The way they pitched the driveway, it drains poorly. I took pictures just after a light rain and there was nearly 3 inches of water pooling next to the driveway. My quote said remove all existing asphalt, they did not remove my walkway and just put 1.5 inches on top of existing, and the walkway is uneven with defects. They just cut out sections of my lawn and left as is, which is a nightmare, Larry admitted he failed on this to me through text, I have screenshots. When I brought this information up to Larry, at first he seemed like he was genuine and understanding. But the more issues I found, Larry then responded with “well you told me there was only two layers of asphalt and there were three”. First of all, I would have no idea what’s under my driveway as I’ve never had anything done to it, so I would not have said 2 not knowing. Second, if there were 3, wouldn’t it of been a good idea to tell me? Instead of using this as ammunition for when I confront you about your shortcomings? This is not the response a company should respond with and begin finger pointing when a client pays you over $17,000 for a project and there are legitimate issues. Recently, Larry agreed to meet with me and his most recent response was “just know, if you press me on the edges or the width, I will charge you for the extra asphalt”. Why am I just hearing about the “extra” asphalt now? Were you waiting to tell me that incase I had issues with your work to use that against me? So if you remove extra asphalt that allows you to destroy my lawn, not make driveway width as agreed on, and not make the driveway drain properly? I wouldn’t have had an issue paying for additional removal, especially knowing my lawn would be destroyed and the draining of the driveway isn’t functioning properly. Bottom line, if you have any legitimate issues after the driveway is completed, don’t be surprised if they blame you for their shortcomings and try to charge you for something that you didn’t know was even an issue until after the fact. Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra for a professional company.
WOW - Larry, Russ, and crew did an amazing job replacing our driveway. They were super-efficient, polite and professional throughout the entire process. We highly recommend them. Great job and thank you!
Russ and his crew transformed my old dirt driveway into a wonderful, smooth looking work of art. Even going as far as matching a small piece up to a walkway I previously installed. I knew from the many years in business, that Russ and his team would to do a fabulous job....and I was right.
Really happy with the new driveway. S&S did a great job. I asked them to extend a small piece of culvert so the driveway would be wider at the end and I had them clear the topsoil and drop gravel for our camper spot in addition to the driveway paving. Work was done as scheduled and promised. Thanks
We got quotes from a few local companies to pave our driveway. S&S was very responsive, gave a great detailed estimate, and was the best value for sure! On the day of the job, the crew was on time, very professional, and super efficient. It has been about a month since they came out and the driveway is perfect!! They did an amazing job. They were able to level everything out and make it so we no longer get water pooling towards the house. I highly recommend this team. You will not be disappointed!!
