Sacred Oak Homes is a Stockbridge general contractor, and a 2025 Google reviewer said it completed a kitchen renovation on their lake house. The 2025 reviewer said that when a structural issue was noticed elsewhere in the house, the company mobilized its team and addressed the problem quickly. The company says it has been building and remodeling homes and businesses throughout the Berkshires and surrounding areas since 1990. Its Massachusetts CSL license, CS-070231, in Steven D MacLeay's name, is active on the state registry. A 2024 masslive.com article named Sacred Oak Homes in Stockbridge as the general contractor on a restoration whose first phase included rebuilding the front porch and replacing a cement ramp with a temporary aluminum ramp. A 2023 Google reviewer said Steven MacLeay and Sacred Oak Homes did a renovation of their home that included a large deck addition, a screened porch, and an interior room that was completely gutted, with plumbing and new walls, ceiling and floor. That 2023 customer said Sacred Oak stuck with them through the design and estimating process to reach a project within their budget, and that they could see the exact cost of materials and labor. The same 2023 customer had a problem with the interior painting; after they complained, Don and Michael were responsive and the problem was fixed. On Houzz, a 2018 reviewer said Steven first made their home more airtight and energy efficient, and in that work found a gap in the frame of the house and took the time to figure out how to fix it. That 2018 reviewer later came to Steven with the idea to redesign a large entryway, adding a half bath and an office, and said he found scrap hardwood to use as shelving inside the closet. A 2018 Houzz reviewer wrote that Steve recommended a few additional repairs and improvements beyond the original work, and called his prices competitive. A 2017 Houzz reviewer hired the firm for a gut renovation that spanned several months, covering the kitchen, bathrooms, structural changes and new flooring. An architect writing on Houzz in 2017 said Steve and his crew carried out the construction of one of the architect's projects, and that Steve offered suggestions that saved the clients money or time. In a 2014 Houzz review, a customer credited Steven with the idea of a large picture window with a stained glass window above it over their kitchen sink. A 2013 Houzz reviewer said Steve MacLeay provided costing, project management and construction for a custom home that reviewer designed.

I had a very positive experience with Steven MacLeay and Sacred Oak Homes when they did a renovation of my home that included a large deck addition, screened porch, and renovation of an interior room that included plumbing and complete gutting and replacing walls, ceiling, and floor. The Construction Supervisor Michael Brex was extremely professional, talented, responsive to questions, and meticulous in the work. The estimator and Project Manager Don Voudren were also excellent to work with. It took awhile for me to settle on a design and Sacred Oak stuck with me through the design and estimating process to get to a project that was within my budget. The estimating and billing are transparent and I could clearly see the exact cost of materials and labor. I had a problem with the interior painting and when I complained, Don and Michael were very responsive and the problem was fixed in a timely and professional manner which I really appreciated. Their work is very high quality and I recommend Sacred Oak Homes to prospective clients without any reservation.
I found Steve and his crew to be exceptionally conscientious and reliable in the work they did at my house. Besides the original work I hired him for, Steve was able to recommend a few additional, highly necessary, repairs and improvements to get the job done right. Steven is more than just a general contractor - he is a multi-talented carpenter, a generous collaborator, and an artist. I first hired him several years ago to make my home more airtight and energy efficient, which he did thoroughly (no more draft!) In that process he found a gap in the frame of my house that my home had just worked around. Steven took the time to figure out how to fix it, an act of healing for which I am very grateful. Most recently, I came to Steven with the idea to redesign my large entryway, adding a half bath and an office. He worked with me, never imposing anything but helping me find the best ways to realize my ideas with the latest technologies and creative solutions. He even found some beautiful scrap hardwood to use as shelving inside the closet - a small detail that makes my home all the more special.
