Sandy Hook Handyman pitches itself for the small-jobs list: its own site offers to plan a half day to fix a loose toilet flush handle, quiet a squeaking hinge, dust the tops of ceiling fans and change HVAC filters. One recent Google customer said Nick has completed numerous projects in their new home over the past year, including replacing doors and frames, rebuilding a dryer vent system, roof and gutter repairs, faucet and toilet replacement, bathroom exhaust fans and light fixtures, drywall and ceiling repairs, and redesigning a fence for easier backyard access. That customer wrote that he sticks to his original estimate without adding unexpected charges, that his background as an inspector helped them prioritize safety issues, and that he is local to the Bethel/Newtown area. A recent customer who needed an old plastic dryer vent replaced said Nick was at the condo the entire day, mostly in the attic, and no sheetrock cutting was required. That customer later had him replace a bathroom faucet and drain and a kitchen drain, fix the flushing mechanism on a toilet and cut two pre-fabricated laminate countertops, and said he was able to provide a certificate of insurance. At a preschool, a recent reviewer said Mr. Barnett laid out the plans and installed shades over the playground equipment after school hours. A 2026 customer said Nick did the job at their house well enough that they planned to have him back for other projects. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0700512, held by Sandy Hook Handyman LLC, as inactive due to non-renewal.

Nick is, without question, the best handyman we've ever worked with. Over the past year he has completed numerous projects in our home and every single one has exceeded our expectations. His work is meticulous, high-quality and completed with great attention to detail. He has never left a project unfinished and is very patient with our endless questions and ideas for our new home. He is also incredibly reliable and responsive, which is hard to find in a contractor; he has shown up several times for us after working full days with other clients to help triage urgent/emergency issues. Nick's pricing and estimates are very reasonable (especially considering his quality of work) and he sticks to his original estimate without adding unexpected charges. He's also very honest and takes the time explain different options while considering both quality and cost. Nick approaches projects with a "big picture" mindset and his background and knowledge as an inspector was very helpful for us in prioritizing safety issues for our family in a new home. Nick has helped us with a wide variety of projects, including replacing doors and frames, designing and rebuilding a complex dryer vent system, installation of a washer/dryer (including new plumbing system) after the local company left us hanging with unconnected appliances, roof and gutter repairs to prevent water intrusion, plumbing (faucets, valve replacement, showerheads and toilet replacement), diagnosing and fixing water intrusion issues (including garage floor barriers and drainage improvement), electrical work (bathroom exhaust fans, light fixtures, etc.), drywall and ceiling repairs, set up of driveway basketball hoop, redesigning our fence to provide easier backyard access and much more. What really sets Nick apart is his problem-solving - he takes the time to listen, understand the issue, and recommends practical solutions and different approaches based on your budget, goals, and future plans for your home. He genuinely cares about his work and doing the job right. In addition, it was great to find someone who is local to the Bethel/Newtown area. Finding a handyman who is dependable, skilled and trustworthy is rare. We have recommended him to lots of local friends and neighbors and will absolutely continue using him for future larger projects.
As you probably know finding a knowledgeable handyman isn’t the easiest task. I was in need of replacing an old flexible plastic dryer vent that ran through the attic to the exterior. I had one individual come to take a look. They informed me cutting the sheet rock behind the dryer was needed. I wasn’t comfortable with their approach. Another came out to view the project. Never heard from that individual again. A relative referred Nick to me. He scheduled a time to meet to look at what the project entailed. Within a few days I was emailed a quote which appeared to be very fair. We scheduled the job. Nick was at the condo the entire day, mostly in the attic. (No sheetrock cutting was required.). I was home so was able to periodically take a look at his progress. The next time I used the dryer I could clearly see the air coming out of the exterior vent. (I’ve been living in this condo for seven years and have not previously noticed that.) A few months later, the bathroom faucet was leaking which triggered putting together a list of miscellaneous items that needed to be addressed. Replace bathroom faucet and drain, replace kitchen drain, fix flushing mechanism on toilet, cut two pre-fabricated, laminate countertops, help me restructure and support filing cabinets in the den/office. Again a good experience with Nick. Nick is a local guy. Personally, I like knowing someone is vested in the area. Family, children, owns a home… It gives me peace of mind. I want to feel comfortable with who I am letting into my personal space. With Nick I felt 100% comfortable. I placed his business card on the notification boards at my condo complex just in case someone else could use his services. I only did that because Nick is very good at what he does. Plus he was able to provide a certificate of insurance. Another win! I’d highly recommend Nick for any project you have. I will definitely use him again.
Mr. Barnett installed some shades over our playground equipment at our preschool. He laid out all the plans and did all the installation after school hours. He is very polite, hard-working and trustworthy. I would call him again for any future work.
Nick is a very professional hard-working individual, and I would trust him to do any of my renovations.
Nick did a fantastic job at our house. I would highly, highly recommend him and will have him back to do our other projects
