Scout Roof Rescue is a roofing company, and its website names Portsmouth as its service area. A 2024 customer said Kate, the owner, ran a roof inspection with them and used a drone to zoom in so they could see the roof's deficiencies in detail. A 2025 customer said they replaced two of that customer's roofs in less than half the quoted time, came in under budget and left no mess, and replaced soft boards while the roofs were open. A 2024 customer wrote that Kate was on-site the next day for an estimate, and that a few days later her team replaced wind-damaged roof caps and damaged metal fascia and cleaned siding and roof in hard-to-reach areas. A 2023 customer said a roof cleaning and a Roof Max application left the roof looking better than it had in years without a new roof. In a one-star 2025 review, a customer said Kate told them during the install that the flashing work in their agreement was not needed, then refused to refund the $2,000 line item; that customer wrote they were going to small claims court. The same 2025 customer said messages about an improperly installed corner under the workmanship warranty were ignored. Its BBB grade is A+.
Things started off well. Kate (the owner) was very helpful, responsive and thorough. She made us feel like she was knowledgeable and she was willing to work with our budget. She advised us to go with a full roof replacement. She told us we needed extra flashing work and agreed to include that in our scope, and used this add-on to get us to agree to the full project. All of this was clearly laid out in writing via email and in our accepted agreement. During the install of the roof, she told us we didn’t actually need the flashing work that she used to secure our business. So after the project, we asked for a refund for this part of the contract (a $2,000 line item) since it was not completed and she refused to refund it to us. After months of excuses (which I am guessing she’ll respond to this review with) and ultimately ignoring all of our communication, we are having to go to small claims court to get our money back. Additionally, she is ignoring our communication about warranty work issues with the roof install itself (improper installation on one of our corners). So it’s also safe to say that the 10 year workmanship warranty she promises (also used to secure our business) is worthless as well. In a nutshell, she will say what she needs to in order to secure your business, then change the scope, keep your money, do poor work and not honor her workmanship warranty, and then ignore all communication hoping you will just go away. She will take no accountability for mistakes she makes in mis-quoting jobs or lack of knowledge on “required” work even when everything is in writing. It’s sad as Kate truly did initially feel like a decent person with our best interests in mind, but ended up just joining a long list of contractors who think it’s ok to take advantage of first time homeowners. We really didn’t want to have to write this review. This would have been very easy for her to make right, and we were incredibly patient and flexible and gave her months to do the right thing and she declined. There are dozens of other roofing companies in the Seacoast and Lakes Region, many of which we spoke with before Kate. Choose any of those over Scout Roof Rescue. Hoping we can save somebody else the stress we’ve gone through and the money we’ve lost. We hope Kate makes things right so we can remove this review. EDIT: I misspoke and “Scout Roof Rescue” is a registered business in the state of New Hampshire, but "not in good standing" as a business status. Another red flag in a long list I wish we had seen before agreeing to work with Kate.
Don't waste your time considering other roofers. Scout is the best there is! They replaced two roofs of mine in less than half the time they quoted and came in under budget. Talk about overdelivering! In and out in less than a day with absolutely no mess left behind. The roofs look great and I rest easy knowing they replaced any soft boards while they had the hood open. I can't recommend them enough!
Kate is very easy to work with because she is very communicative, clear, honest and reliable. I highly recommend Scout for any of your roof needs!
Working with Scout Roof Rescue has been a dream from estimate to completion. Kate is extremely thorough, a swift communicator, and the quality of my new roof is excellent! Go with them!!!!
A big thanks to my neighbor for recommending Kate and her team! The next day she was on-site to accomplish a very reasonable estimate. Just a few days later, her team was at work replacing the roof caps (damaged by wind). I also had siding/roof cleaning in those hard to reach areas. The results were incredible. They also did replacement of damaged metal fascia. Keep Kate and her team in mind for all your roofing needs.
