Sousa & Sons Ironworks describes itself as a family-owned North Dartmouth shop that designs, fabricates and installs fencing plus custom iron gates, ornamental railings and spiral staircases. The company says it began as a small iron fence company in New Bedford in 1977. Its BBB page shows an A+ rating without accreditation and lists Sid DeSousa as president. A recent customer said they were visited twice for a quote and told they would hear back by Thursday, then got no phone calls, texts or any response for four weeks. A 2023 customer said Sousa and Sons installed a vinyl fence and gate in December 2022 and the gate started to sag the next month. In that 2023 review, the customer wrote that the gate hung on a hollow vinyl post with no support and that Sid did not respond to dozens of attempts to reach him. A 2024 customer said the company agreed to a job and a price, then refused to do the job. A 2022 customer said they called four times about a driveway gate and fire escape without a return call. A 2022 customer said the company fabricated and installed their driveway gate after a prompt and accurate estimate, and named Norberto as the craftsman. A 2022 customer said the company was helpful from measuring and planning through final installation. A 2025 customer praised clean work and welding skills.
Chassis come out twice to give me a quote….said he’d let me know by Thursday……that was 4 weeks ago. No phone calls, texts or any response. Never can understand being ghosted

Today I had work done in my yard to level it bc of water over flow and my yard being uneven. Im very happy with the work that was done, amazing people and overall professional. Mathew and his crew came over to give us an estimate and we were educated on what we can or cant do. Thank you so much guys.
Extremely unprofessional. First agreed with the job and I agreed with the price without negotiating and in the end refused to do the job, ultimately wasted a lot of my time.
***CUSTOMERS BEWARE*** We had Sousa and Sons install our vinyl fence and gate in December 2022. In January 2023, the very next month, we noticed the gate starting to sag. We notified Sid and he said if it gets worse he’ll take care of it in the Spring. Since June we’ve tried to contact him dozens of times by text message, cell phone and also his business line without any response. He informed us there was a lifetime guarantee on the fence and gate and also his labor. When he installed the gate, he used a hollow vinyl post with no support to hold up a heavy gate causing the post to sag and the gate not to close properly. The tiny gate stopper that was installed was just drilled into the blacktop with no outer metal support causing cracking in the blacktop. If they did things correctly the first time, we wouldn’t have to be contacting him to rectify it. Needless to say, Sid has been ghosting us, leaving us to have no resolution.
