Verified record
South Shore Home Services runs out of 96 Long Pond Rd in Plymouth, and what it has to show is a permit trail rather than a review pile: six residential projects on file between 2013 and 2018, spread across Hingham, Marshfield, Milton and East Falmouth. The written record is a single account, from August 2017, and that homeowner did the work of laying out both columns. On the plus side: fair price quotes, an owner who answered questions quickly, tradespeople they found friendly and knowledgeable, work spaces kept clean and orderly, and structural work they were satisfied with. On the other: a job quoted at four weeks ran about three and a half months, and small details — mismatched paint, doors hung wrong, paint splatters — were left half-finished. They recommended the company anyway, with the caveat that it suited small-to-medium projects and that a homeowner should watch the punch list closely. The licensing picture is the thing to settle before calling. The Massachusetts registry shows the company's home improvement contractor registration, number 172444, as expired; BuildZoom separately lists three HIC numbers for the business, all shown as inactive, and a general contractor licence whose expiration date it prints as 1994. Ask what registration is current before any contract is signed. Beyond that one dated account and the permit history, there is little here to judge on — recent local references would be the sensible next ask.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from South Shore Home Services. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Overall, we were fairly satisfied with South Shore Home Services. As first time homeowners, we didn't really know what to expect with massive renovations we undertook. Here are pros/cons of the company we compiled. P: Fair price quotes Very accessible company owner (quick replies to questions etc) Individual contractors were very friendly and knowledgeable Very clean and orderly work spaces, very professional Overall structural work was good C: Timeframe of work (said 4 weeks, took about 3.5 months) Many minor details were left unfinished or halfway done Time took so long due to it being small company and workers being spread so thin Overall, the experience was good and we would recommend them. But beware as first-time homeowners undertaking renovations to pay attention to all of the little details (mismatched paint, doors being put on wrong, paint splatters, etc). We didn't really know what to look for being newbies, but you are paying a lot of money and you should expect perfection. Also, we overlooked a lot of the minor details b/c we just wanted our home after waiting for so long for the renovations to be complete. Don't do that. It's better to wait a little extra than having to deal with annoying small issues down the line. But in summary, we would recommend them for small-medium projects.
