Symbio Design is a Cambridge, Massachusetts landscape architecture and design-build management firm, founded in 2014 by Michael White, a licensed landscape architect with LEED AP certification. The company says it has spent more than a decade guiding residential, institutional, and corporate landscape projects from first sketch through construction, and keeps a second office in New York. Its public reviews are few and all date back to 2023, but they tell a consistent story: clients single out how closely White stays involved through design and permitting, coordinating the outside engineers, surveyors, and crews a project needs rather than swinging the shovels himself. On Google it holds a perfect average, though from only four ratings, and the Better Business Bureau lists it at an A+ even though Symbio has never sought formal accreditation there. One complaint surfaced online describing a downspout left improperly connected after a job, with Symbio's owner publicly asking the customer to get in touch so a manager could follow up — worth weighing against the otherwise clean record, since it's unclear how that particular case was resolved. Because Symbio frames itself as managing the design-and-build process rather than fielding its own installation crew, it's also worth confirming up front which trades actually show up on-site for a given project. This reads like a fit for someone who wants a single point of contact to handle design, permitting, and subcontractor coordination on a more involved landscape project, rather than a homeowner looking for a crew to simply show up and install. With so few public reviews and none in the last few years, ask for recent references before committing to anything substantial.

We have worked with Symbio Design for the past year and a half on a complicated residential landscaping project that has included numerous town requirements related to stormwater mitigation and land use. Symbio has been extremely attentive to the details and have a very strong understanding of the science behind the town's mitigation requests. Our project manager, Mike White has recommended a civil engineer, surveyor, landscaper, and civil contractor, who have all been great and have provided excellent services. The finished project is exactly what we had envisioned and we are very happy. I highly recommend Symbio Design.

Excellent experience - Mike was so easy to work with, very detailed-oriented, and went above and beyond to help us not only with our landscape design but also navigating our town permitting process!

I hired Mike and his team at Symbio to design a hardscape area for a large amenity package at one of our commercial office asset. The space came out great and Tenants really enjoy it. Mike and the Symbio team were seamless to work with and made my job as the development manager a bit more simple!
