The Giving Tree does lawn treatments and sprinkler work, and the company says it has been in business 31 years. On the Better Business Bureau it describes its offer as lawn care, tree and shrub maintenance and sprinkler systems. Its BBB grade is A+, while Google shows 3.1 stars from 27 ratings. A longtime customer says a technician came into the house and made a pass at their mom, that they have it on video and have reported them to the police, and that the office staff claimed not to know about conduct reported the year before. A customer learned a couple of years in that only the front yard was being treated, was told the contract covered only the front lawn, and never got a shrub service requested the year before. A customer who says they spent 15k over three years wanted weed control for the beds and says it was charged for and not done. A customer says the sprinkler system was not checked at the previous year's shutdown and the backflow valve broke, with the repair coming close to $1000; that customer had praise for the technician but is unlikely to renew. A 2026 customer of 17 years said a duplicate fungicide treatment they never requested was charged, that the owner, Pat, never discussed it, and that $170 came out of their prepaid balance when they cancelled. A 2024 customer whose grass was turning brown said the company called it fungus, then grubs, then web worms, and quoted several hundred dollars to repair the yard. A 2023 customer said they had paid for grub control, yet grubs were killing the lawn, and a second treatment and reseeding did not help. A 2024 sprinkler customer called the company the most expensive they had used and said they were hung up on twice when calling about the bill. A 2024 customer said Pablo planned a visit around the weather and applied weed and feed with straight lines and even coverage. A 2025 customer thanked Zeke for work on a lawn that was in rough shape after a scorching summer. A 2023 customer said an employee came back and attempted to break into the house a few days after a service, and that the owner, Pat, was defensive and told them to file a police report.
We have used this company for many years and in the last two years a technician has been highly inappropriate. We contacted the business and reported the conduct and it seemed they had remedied the situation. Just this year the technician actually came into the house and made a pass at my mom. We have this on video and have reported them to the police. If you have a elderly female who uses this service I would be very careful. The office staff claimed they did not know anything about this from last year which is sad. I would not recommend this company to anyone at this time despite 10+ years using them.
The company only treats my front yard. I did not find out until a couple years later. When I called, I was told it was on the contract only for the front lawn. Of course there’s no shrub service I requested last year. So when you use this service, you need to ask for the detailed service they provide on paper, not just pay the bill and thinking the service will match your phone conversation with them.
Place sucks you can see by there reviews spent 15k in 3 years my biggest thing I wanted was weed control for my beds. 3 years they charge and don’t do. Owner supposed to come out since June 1. He always on vaca or off for the day. Nice spending my hard money while robbing me.
Very disappointing as they did not check during last years shut down of sprinkler system. So a small leak caused the backflow valve broke completely. They used to send invoices so I know how much I owe to make payments. New system I cannot even log on. Cost for repair and everything they claimed cost close to $1000. Technician was great though, but we are unlikely to renew for next year. Used to be a very honest and good company. The weeds on the lawn are not properly treated.
Do not prepay for your annual lawn treatments. Here’s why. I was a loyal customer for 17 years. This past season, I was charged for a duplicate fungicide treatment that I never requested. When I tried to discuss and dispute the extra charge for that treatment that was part of my prepaid plan, the customer service was terrible. When I requested to speak with Pat, the owner, he was always “out in the field” and never had the courtesy to discuss this issue with me. When I decided to discontinue their service and requested a refund of my prepaid balance, they took the duplicate charge of $170 out of my balance. For 17 years I was relatively pleased with the results of their service but the poor customer service resulting from this issue was enough for me to decide it was time for a change. I switched to Bethany Mountain Landscaping and so far, I couldn’t be happier.
