U-Call We Haul is a one-employee hauling and waste-disposal business at 3 Jerome Street in Medford, listed with the Better Business Bureau as U - Call We Haul LLC and managed by John V. Matthews. The BBB records the business as started in January 1981 and incorporated in 2008, and grades it A+ while noting it is not BBB accredited. The work it takes on is debris rather than furniture: its own site and its BBB listing both describe construction and demolition debris removal for commercial, residential and industrial clients, plus home and estate cleanouts, disaster-recovery clearing after fire, flood or snow, scrap and yard-waste recycling, container rental and labour hire. It describes itself as family owned and operated and says it gives free estimates and is fully insured. There is a regulatory history a homeowner should know about before hiring. Cambridge Day reported in October 2019 that the state Department of Labor Standards ordered work stopped at a Cambridge address after finding that U Call We Haul of Medford was not licensed properly to remove lead and had failed to contain potentially contaminated dust, among other violations. The same report said the contractor had been fined $7,500 in 2015 for similar violations in Brookline and warned in 2010 about doing lead work while unlicensed. That is a reported account of agency records rather than a document we have verified directly, but it is specific, it names this business and this town, and it describes a repeat pattern rather than a single lapse. Customer testimony is almost non-existent, and what exists is negative: the only review on file anywhere is a BBB complaint from a neighbour whose first-floor window was damaged during a dumpster pickup, who says the company sent someone to look at the damage and asked for a repair estimate. The published history also disagrees with itself: the BBB says 45 years in business, the company's own website says over 35 years, and its LinkedIn page says over 25. If you are considering this company for anything involving a pre-1978 building — renovation debris, gut cleanouts, demolition — ask directly whether it currently holds the state lead licence for the work, and get that in writing. For a straight container drop-off or a cleanout with no lead exposure, ask for proof of current insurance, agree in advance who is responsible for property damage during placement and pickup, and get the price in writing before the truck arrives.
“The state Department of Labor Standards had ordered work stopped at 12 Arnold Circle on Aug. 30, finding that the contractor, U Call We Haul of Medford, was not licensed properly to remove lead and that the company had failed to contain potentially contaminated dust, among other violations. The same contractor was fined $7,500 in 2015 for similar violations in Brookline and was warned in 2010 about doing work involving lead while not licensed, according to records at the worker safety agency.”
owner of u-call we haul recently had one of his drivers (son) hit my property damaging my first floor window while retrieving one of there dumpsters at my neighbors property. He sent someone that works for his company out to view the damage and ask me to send them an estimate to repair the damage.
