Ask around about Valley Home Improvement in the same week and you'll hear different things: one Reddit commenter in May 2026 called it "expensive but excellent," with an owner who really listens to clients, while another the same week said a consultation left the impression the answer to everything was to tear it out and start over, and a third called the pricing budget-friendly but said they wouldn't recommend the work. The Northampton company describes itself as a design-build remodeler working kitchens, baths, additions, sunrooms, porches, basements and garages across the Pioneer Valley, and BBB records list it as incorporated in 1992 under president Steven Silverman. On Google, where the company holds a 4.6-star average, and on Houzz, reviewers describe full renovations — a down-to-the-studs bathroom, a complete kitchen remodel, a basement rebuilt from ceiling to floor, additions built around a growing family — done on schedule and left clean, with several naming the people who ran the job directly: Steve, Chris and Cody on recent projects, and designer Dan Bradbury on a run of 2016-2017 kitchen and bath jobs that also brought the company five Houzz Reader's Choice wins between 2016 and 2020 and the 2016 Big50 award. A few accounts are worth knowing about before you call. A 2024 Google review describes a two-to-three-week wait just to hear back from an online estimate request, and a 2017 Houzz review describes something similar — a September meeting that went unanswered for months. A 2019 Houzz review raised rot found years after a 2005 porch build; the company's own response, posted on the same page, says its current ownership bought the business in 2015, after that job was done. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and BBB lists the company as not accredited, without enough information to issue a rating, and with no complaints on file. For a homeowner planning a real renovation — a full kitchen, bath, addition or basement — the design and construction side has years of specific praise behind it; what's worth confirming up front is how quickly you'll hear back after that first inquiry, and who on the current team will actually be running your job.
“When we had Valley Home Improvement come out for a consultation, the guy might as well have said "i'd just tear it down and start over".”
“I’d worked with Valley Home Improvement previously, they’re definitely a more budget-friendly option, but would absolutely not recommend.”
“Valley Home Improvement. Expensive but excellent, including really good project management and an owner who really listens to his clients.”
“So far I've heard good things about Valley Home Improvement in Florence and Kitchen Concepts in Hadley.”
A few years ago I did a review of VHI. However, when I dropped my old Google workplace account it was lost. I need to repeat that review. A few years ago they remodeled a kitchen and bath. The work was first rate. VHI has the best craftspersons, they are meticulously clean, and they use state of the art CAD (Computer aided design). Would not do a remodel without their skilled use of CAD. Recently we had them back to remodel a basement into a family room with bath and kitchenette. Again, their work was first rate. They are great to work with in part because they listen and work at executing the home owner’s design ideas rather than do some cookie cutter remodel.
Working with Valley Home Improvement was a wonderful experience. Their craftsmanship, communication and friendliness was exceptional. We appreciated the daily clean up. They definitely earn 5 stars.
Valley Home improvement-Five Stars Valley Home improvement gets my highest recommendations! They did an excellent job soundproofing and upgrading my front bedroom. Their work is extremely professional, and their attention to detail is impressive. The upgrade definitely increased the value of my home, the room looks great, and it is so much quieter than any other room in the house. Everyone on the VHI team was nice and easy to work with, and they were very accommodating with my scheduling needs. I am very grateful several of my neighbors highly recommended them.
You send them contact form Tell them what you'd like so you can get an estimate and they send you another email stating you could take two to three weeks to get back to you?? Are you kidding me? Two to 3 weeks well then you must be so busy you don't need my business and I'm definitely not going to give you it. That's disgusting How can you run a company like that. No wonder you reviews are so bad
We have worked with VHI for two big projects. They are professional and great to work with.
