A foundation for a greenhouse is the job a recent Google customer wrote about at length: the finished foundation appears well built and the quality met their expectations, but they gave two stars for how it got done. That customer said calls and texts often went unanswered, completion dates were missed and replaced with new dates that also slipped, and the greenhouse company had to reschedule its installation multiple times. They wrote that they were left with an unheated greenhouse in the middle of winter and a muddy yard full of debris to clean up when the snow melted, and advised making sure a contract states what comes off the final price if the work is not completed on time. Vermont Carpentry and Handyman Services' website lists kitchen and bathroom renovation, flooring, finish trim, framing, tiling, painting and staining, custom cabinet design, excavation and sitework, and custom homes. It names a service area of Royalton, Bennington, Burlington, Hanover and Lebanon. A 2025 customer said Joseph remodeled their entire kitchen, installing new cabinets, ceilings, lighting, outlets, a tile backsplash and stone countertops. In a 2026 review, a customer said Joseph gave an instant response to a plumbing issue and diagnosed it quickly. A 2026 customer said Joseph removed snow from their roof after a snowstorm for an affordable price. A 2026 customer who hired Joseph to plow for the 2025-2026 season said he was there early in the morning and did not plow when the snow was only a couple of inches.
“Found a company called Vermont Carpentry on FPF... has anyone used them? I have some concerns, but don't want to judge without some confirmation.”
The finished foundation appears to be well built, and in the end the quality of the work met my expectations which is why I am providing a two star review. Unfortunately, the process of getting there was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had with a contractor. What was initially presented as a much shorter project ultimately took much longer to complete. Throughout the project, communication was a constant challenge. Phone calls and text messages often went unanswered for extended periods, and I frequently had to follow up multiple times before receiving a response. Eventually, after I expressed significant frustration, Joseph did begin responding more consistently. However, throughout the project I was repeatedly told that the job was a top priority and that work would begin or resume the following week. In many cases, someone might show up for a day, only for no one to return the next week or for extended periods afterward. On several occasions, I was given completion dates that were not met, only to be provided with new dates that also slipped. Because this foundation was being built for a greenhouse installation, these delays affected other contractors as well. The greenhouse company had to reschedule their installation multiple times due to missed deadlines, creating additional stress and complications. It left us sitting in the middle of winter with an unheated greenhouse so we could not complete some work, and a mess muddy yard full of debris that we had to clean up when the snow melted. This was a project I had saved and planned for over many years, and what should have been an exciting experience became a prolonged source of anxiety and frustration. While I am satisfied with the final product and the quality of the completed work, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this contractor to discuss communication expectations, scheduling, and project timelines in detail before hiring. Make sure your contract clearly states what you will get off the final price if not completed on time! If you are working with other contractors whose schedules depend on this work being completed, be prepared for potential delays and the need to frequently follow up.
Highly recommend Vermont Carpentry - Joseph especially is a Great guy and extremely knowledgeable. Most recently we had a plumbing issue pop-up out of the blue and Joseph gave us an instant response. He made sure to get to us and diagnose the issue faster than any other professional has ever done for us. We also have the plowing for our driveway and shared Road done by Joseph and he does an excellent job.
We hired Joseph Potwin to plow for us this past winter season (2025-2026). We find him to be trustworthy, dependable, reliable and patient. All around great guy. He goes above and beyond and has great customer service skills. He has a quick response time to phone call voice mails, emails and/or text messages. Would highly recommend him and look forward to having him do other work for us.
My wife and I use their driveway and common road snowplow service. Joseph Potwin has been respectful toward us and professional in resolving any issues. In these times where it seems price gouging is the norm instead of quality of work it's a pleasure having Joseph do our plowing. His pricing is more than fair for the excellent service he provides.
We hired Joseph as our plow guy for this winter season (2025-2026) and he did a fantastic job. Always there early in the morning so we could get out for work, dependable, easy to get a hold of, and didn’t plow us when the snow was only a couple of inches to make extra money. We will definitely be working with Joseph next winter season and we hope, many more winters after that.
