Fernando Carreiro started at Villandry Contracting as a carpenter in 1987, under founder David Villandry, worked up through foreman and supervisor, and bought the company in 2008. That is the kind of continuity you rarely get in remodeling, and it shows up in the paperwork: BuildZoom counts 423 permitted projects and puts the company in the 95th percentile of Massachusetts contractors, and BBB has had it accredited since December 1986, currently at an A+. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, 101269, is active in the company's own name. The work is Arlington-centred remodeling — kitchens, bathrooms, additions, interiors and exteriors — and the company says it serves Arlington, Belmont, Lexington, Medford and Winchester. BBB lists 15 employees. The customer accounts are unusually consistent about the same two things: schedule and money. In an August 2023 review, a homeowner who used them on two different houses said both jobs finished early and on budget, and that the crew kept the neighbours happy while they worked. A June 2014 repeat client — a five-month kitchen renovation, then an addition, then a basement — said their estimates hold and they don't nickel-and-dime as construction goes along. A December 2024 reviewer, back for multiple jobs over the years, described them as organized, polite and timely. In April 2023 a couple doing a gut renovation of their kitchen and first-floor bathroom named their foreman, John, and their project coordinator as the reason questions got answered. Carreiro's own accessibility comes up repeatedly, including in a November 2023 review that credited him for not padding the job. The one sour note is worth knowing about. In January 2025 a homeowner who chose a different contractor posted a one-star review over Carreiro's reply, quoting an email that told them not to call again. It's about how a lost bid was handled, not about finished work — but it is the most recent thing written, and it is why Google sits at 3.8 across ten ratings while Houzz shows 4.7 across three. A sound call for an Arlington-area homeowner planning a kitchen, bath or addition who wants a long-established shop with a deep permit history and an owner who runs the punch list himself. Confirm registration 101269 and get the schedule in writing before you sign.
“Villandry has done large projects for me, very professional & Arlington based”
“[Villandry Contracting](https://www.buildzoom.com/contractor/villandry-contracting-inc) in Arlington seems like a good choice based on what I found on Buildzoom. They're licensed and have experience with garage repairs and additions. I personally haven't worked with them”
Fernando sent a really nasty email after we decided to move forward with another contractor. When I explained that I’d been busy dealing with placing my mother, who has Alzheimers, in a home during the holidays and that we hoped to use him in the future he still wrote to me “Please don’t call me again. Plus you think I'm really concerned about you telling others? Really” So here I am writing to others Fernando.
They have done multiple jobs for us over the years. Always organized, polite, timely, and they do a great job.
Fernando is an honest and caring guy- genuinely cares about the work and not ripping you off- hard to come by these days. His team was super respectful, on-time, and super communicative. Paula was a delight to coordinate with on the phone, so sweet. I hope to use them again in the future for my bathroom Reno.
You cannot find a better contractor. Villandry is top-notch. The crew, project manager, owner, subs, and every member of the staff is easy to work with, professional, and understanding. We have used Villandry twice for 2 different houses and wouldn't use anyone else. The work that they do is high quality. They stand behind everything they do and make sure the customer is happy. The craftsmanship of their work is unbeatable. They finished early on both of our jobs, stayed on budget, and made sure that our neighbors were happy so we started on a good note with the neighbors when we moved in. We cannot recommend them highly enough.
We had the pleasure of working with Villandry to do a gut renovation of our kitchen and first floor bathroom. We choose to work with Fernando because he was so attentive and thoughtful from the day he came over to give us a quote. Though there were Covid-related delays to the start of our project, the project moved fairly quickly when we started. Our wonderful foreman John was a joy to work with, answering our many questions and ensuring the work that was done was of the highest quality. If we did have questions outside of those conversations, it was easy to get in touch with our project coordinator Paula. When unknown issues arose during construction (as they do in old homes!) there were smart options presented and we were able to move forward quickly. Our home is now complete with an incredible kitchen and first-floor space. There is truly nothing we would change about it! We hope to work with Villandry on further renovations in the future.
