Wilder Construction's paper trail stops in 2014. The Gardner outfit — BuildZoom carries it under the personal-name variant Thomas L Wilder Construction at the same address and phone — has six permits reaching back to 1995: a full interior remodel in Boxborough in 2011, two decks in 2014 in Gardner and Framingham, a kitchen and bath remodel in Worcester that same year, a 2010 roof repair in Auburndale and a 1995 re-roof in Falmouth. Remodeling is the through-line, with kitchens, baths, basements, whole homes and additions all listed. The licensing picture is the headline. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #178258, is expired — that one was checked against the state registry. BuildZoom separately shows six inactive or cancelled records under the Wilder name, including a construction supervisor licence, and says general contractor licence #131146 expired in June 2004. An HIC registration is what gives a Massachusetts homeowner access to the Guaranty Fund, so this is the first question to put to them, before any deposit. The written customer history is dated and slim: one 3-star Google review from November 2018 — "Like it good for exactly what you need" — against a single Google rating overall. That tells you somebody hired them and walked away neither thrilled nor angry; it does not tell you how a project runs. BuildZoom's score of 0 says nothing about customers either, since it comes from being unable to verify an active licence. For a homeowner weighing a remodel, two things need answering first: what Wilder has built since 2014, and whether the registration has been reinstated with Consumer Affairs. Both are quick to confirm, and both should be confirmed before money moves.
