A customer writing in July 2024 about a sunroom said John had good ideas about how to approach the project and Karin did an excellent job keeping them posted. In December 2024 another said they asked for a deck quote in September 2024 and John and Karin came out the very next day. In June 2026 a couple having two twenty-year-old bathrooms redone said both of them came to measure and quote.
Wood Trades is a family-owned general contractor in Westport, started by John Wood after he left a previous job to work for himself and built a crew around him. The company lists roofing, siding, kitchen and bath remodels, decks, additions, flooring, tile and general repairs; the Better Business Bureau, which accredits it and grades it A+, lists more again — custom tile, staircase construction, door and window replacement, outdoor storage.
Decks are the single most-described job. A July 2024 customer picked out the way John picture-framed the steps on their front deck, and said the company communicated at every stage, respected the house and cleaned up each day. An August 2026 customer was happy with a new deck from beginning to end. Away from decks, customers describe an office and bathroom built out, two bathrooms remodelled, and a repeat customer on the BBB page with multiple completed projects going back to 2018.
One account sits apart from the rest: a 2-star from June 2026. The customer describes a carport and covered patio added to their garage as exactly what had been discussed, done perfectly, to code, with never a mess left behind — and opens by saying they no longer recommend the business, pending a dispute, and to check back for updates. Angi's 4.8 average across 12 ratings is 92% at five stars and that 8% at two.
On registrations, treat the listings as listings. The Better Business Bureau shows a Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards registration, 213011, expiring in August 2028, and a construction supervisor licence, CS-118249, expiring August 2028. BuildZoom shows #213011 active and also carries an older home improvement contractor registration, #205646, which it marks inactive and at one point cancelled. None of those has been confirmed against the state registry, so ask to see the current certificates.
Good fit for a deck, a bathroom, a sunroom or an addition where you want the owners themselves quoting and running it. Ask what the warranty covers and how a disagreement gets handled before you sign, and get the registration numbers and their status confirmed.
