York Earthworks is an excavation company that describes its work as running from road and driveway grading to foundations. Its website lists a service area of Sebago, Naples, Bridgton, Casco, Raymond, Windham, Standish and Hollis. In a 2025 review, a customer said York Earthworks was hired as a subcontractor by their general contractor for excavation and lawn installation on a new home build. That 2025 customer said the hydroseeding was applied very thinly, leaving bare spots from the start, and that in many places there was as little as ¾" of loam. The customer said about 100 yards of additional loam had to be hauled in; Nate brought his skid steer to help spread it but refused to contribute toward the cost of the loam or the reseeding, according to that 2025 review. That 2025 customer also said Styrofoam insulation on the basement exterior went in at R-10 where the energy code requires R-15, and described improper grading and frost piers not buried to code. A 2018 Angi customer recommended the company and called it detail oriented.
York Earthworks was hired as a subcontractor by my general contractor for excavation and lawn installation on my new home build. The hydroseeding was applied very thinly, leaving bare spots from the start. Most of the lawn either established very poorly or not at all. In many places, there was as little as ¾" of loam (minimum should be 4"), the soil was heavily compacted by equipment, and rocks were left scattered throughout. We had to haul in approximately 100 yards of additional loam to bring it up to an adequate depth. Nate did bring his skid steer to help spread it, but refused to contribute toward the cost of the loam or the reseeding. Another major issue — he upsold me on adding Styrofoam insulation to the exterior of my basement so I wouldn’t need to insulate inside if I ever finished it. However, he only installed R-10 insulation when the energy code requires R-15. This meant I had to add additional insulation to the interior and then sheetrock over it just to meet code — extra expense caused by not doing it right the first time. Other problems included improper grading that required extra concrete to fix, frost piers not buried to code, and denial of contract items like edging. While the owner is personable, the poor workmanship, repeated code violations, and lack of accountability make it impossible for me to recommend York Earthworks.
Recommended, detail oriented.
