A1 Exterminators is the Massachusetts arm of what's now branded Ned's Home — a pest control company with roots back to 1953 that was acquired by the Ned's Home family of home-services brands. It's BBB-accredited (A+) since 1996 and Best Pick Reports gives it a 4.6-out-of-5 compiled score across 199 verified reviews, but the record readers can actually check for themselves is thin and leans negative. A 2025 Reddit post from a Medford homeowner describes years of rat boxes that get refilled without the rat problem going away, wondering aloud whether it's "a rip off" and whether another company might solve it. Around the same time, a different Reddit poster who'd had a termite swarm questioned whether the company's Sentricon system installation — placed away from the actual swarm site because of a stone patio — made sense, or whether they were being scammed. Most recently, a 2026 Angi review describes a technician sent to confirm a squirrel infestation who showed up without tools or a camera and concluded, after just listening to the homeowner's account, that there were no more squirrels — with no actual inspection performed. Best Pick Reports' own sampled reviews echo the same theme, flagging unreturned scheduling calls and unresponsive service on at least one contract. Two older Google reviews — a bare "Great job!" from 2025 and a similarly brief "professional, thorough" note from 2022 — are the only positive first-hand accounts in the file. One caution for readers checking other platforms: Angi's headline rating for this listing (4.3 stars from over 2,800 reviews) is inflated by the Ned's Home merger — the great majority of those reviews describe Ned Stevens gutter cleaning, an unrelated service line under the same corporate umbrella, not this company's pest control work. For a homeowner weighing A1 Exterminators, the credentials (BBB accreditation, insurance, background-checked technicians) are real, but the handful of specific, checkable accounts point toward inspections that don't always get followed through — worth asking pointed questions about what exactly a technician will check before booking.
“Last May, we had a horrific swarm of flying termites in our kitchen. Thousands of termites crawled up out of the corner of the floor and outer wall. I called A1 Exterminators, and they did an inspection and sold me on a Sentricon subterranean system which they installed around the house. My main concern was that they did not install a station near the actual swarm location, because there is a stone patio breezeway outside the wall where the activity was that prevent drilling into the ground. However they told me that because the colony is in the ground under the whole house, the station did not need to be directly at the activity site. They told me that there would likely be another swarm before the colony was fully eliminated so I expected that. I asked how we would know the system was working if we get another swarm, and they said they would do inspections on the stations, but it was confusing to me because they basically said that if they DIDN'T see evidence of feeding, that meant ”
“For a few years now, we have had these black rat boxes that A1 Exterminators told us would control our rat problem. Well, there’s no control, they just keep refilling them and report that the rat problem persists. We don’t leave trash out, no evident food outside, and we never see the rats. Just “signs” of them from these rat boxes Our neighbors don’t report any problems. All this is based on “Medford has a major rat problem“. I don’t believe this is some kind of a rip off, but I also wonder if there is another option (no cats please), or a different company with a better solution? . ”
Absolutely unacceptable experience with Ned?s Pest Control. I had squirrels get into my home through a vent. I personally removed three of them, but I wasn?t confident there weren?t more inside, which is exactly why I hired a professional to actually inspect and confirm. The technician showed up completely unprepared?no tools, no camera, nothing. After just listening to my explanation, he concluded there were no more squirrels without performing any real inspection. No attempt to check inside the vent, no verification, nothing. He then went up to the roof for a quick look, and I had to provide and carry the ladder myself. That was the extent of the ?service.? Later that day I got a bill of $300 for essentially zero work and zero value. Even worse, the final report simply stated that the ?owner believes the squirrels have been removed,?. Highly unprofessional, overpriced, and completely not worth it. I will not use this company again and strongly advise others to look elsewhere
