Advantage III Family LLC trades as Advantage Plumbing & Heating out of Shirley Street in Winthrop, and the pitch on its own site is deliberately un-corporate: you don't get a dispatcher, you get Joe. That is Joseph Ciampa, whose Massachusetts master plumber licence, 16886-PL-M, is active in the state registry. The company describes itself as female owned and family run, and says it has 30 years behind it. The written history is small but consistent. Google shows 4.0 stars across 4 ratings, and both of the comments actually written are five stars. A homeowner writing in August 2025 described a toilet replacement that turned awkward — they had assumed a 12-inch rough-in and it was really 10 — and credited the crew for scoping the job first and adapting on the spot when the swap proved not straightforward. In a 2023 review, a property owner said that calling Joe or the office is "the beginning of my plumbing problems being resolved… every time," and named responsiveness as the reason they keep going back. The work the company advertises runs from the small stuff — leaks, clogs, running toilets, fixture swaps — through preventative maintenance to gas boiler installation and the plumbing leg of remodels and new construction. It also states gas boiler certification and permit-pulling authority; those are the company's own claims rather than anything confirmed here. What to weigh: this is a two-review record spanning 2023 to 2025, and the 4.0 Google average sits below both written comments, so a couple of the silent ratings are lower than what people bothered to type. The 30-year tenure is the company's own figure too. For everyday household plumbing and heating around Winthrop — a bad toilet, a tired boiler, the rough-in on a bathroom job — this is a small shop whose few reviewers all describe the same thing: the owner is involved and the problem gets solved. Confirm the scope and price before work starts, and ask who is pulling the permit.
I was very impressed working with Joseph and his crew. He sent two of his folks over. The first scoped out the job to be done (which was key in this case as I incorrectly thought my toilet had a 12 inch rough in when it was actually 10 inch) and the second did the actual toilet replacement. Said replacement was NOT straightforward and he responded quickly to adapt. I’d use them for future plumbing needs in a heartbeat.
I recommend these guys 100%. When I call Joe the owner or the secretary that’s the beginning of my plumbing problems being resolved….every time! As a property owner I appreciate and need that responsiveness.
