Allen Tile is Kevin Allen, working alone, and by the company's own account he has been setting ceramic, porcelain, glass, quarry and natural stone out of Haverhill since 1991. Working solo shapes both halves of hiring him: the care people describe, and the calendar. The fussy details are what customers write about. In a 2017 review, a homeowner described him pulling the baseboards so the tile ran all the way to the walls, then putting new trim back, and installing the vanity they had chosen with tile carried underneath it. A June 2015 reviewer whose bathroom he re-tiled said he found a problem with the underlayment and made the unexpected repairs at a reasonable cost. In April 2015, a homeowner who had already bought their tile and torn out the old floor wrote that he squeezed the small job in, found damage around the toilet and replaced the subfloor. A 2018 reviewer who had recently become disabled and was showering in a chair said he worked them into his schedule right away and arrived on time. The newest account, from October 2023, called the finished tile gorgeous and added something that matters when one person is working in your house: the homeowner was comfortable leaving him there while they were out. The trade-off comes from a 2016 review that spells it out. Kevin works solo, so that job ran about a month, and the household went without a stove, laundry and dishwasher with the fridge parked in the family room. That reviewer said a larger crew would have finished faster and still gave five stars — but get a realistic schedule before a room gets torn up. One complaint sits in the history. In October 2014, a customer wrote that Allen Tile delivered an unsafe, unusable shower; that same review says Kevin was hired as a subcontractor by a plumber who had responsibility for the job, and Angi's profile notes the owner posted a detailed rebuttal. It is the one negative among thirteen written reviews, all on Angi, which run from 2014 to 2023. Angi rates the company 4.7 across 15 reviews and lists it as an Approved pro; Porch shows 4.6 across 15 and a service area covering the Merrimack Valley and the North Shore. For a bathroom re-tile, a custom shower, or floor tile you want done fussily rather than fast, Kevin Allen is that kind of hire. Pin down the timeline and what you will be living without while he is there, and if he will be working under another contractor, settle who owns the finished result before anyone starts.
