Alliance Home Inspectors describes itself on HomeAdvisor as a Maine home inspection company that also does radon, mold and water testing. It holds 4.1 stars from 17 ratings on HomeAdvisor, and its Better Business Bureau grade is A+. A 2026 customer hired Alliance for a one-year warranty inspection on a new build and flagged ongoing bathroom fan ventilation problems; that customer said the report noted no major issues, and they then spent almost 4,000 dollars correcting the ductwork and ventilation. A 2022 customer said the inspection called the chimney good apart from a damper and the cleanout, that a later chimney inspection found severe water damage, and that initial repairs would cost over 7k. A 2022 customer said Joseph missed major issues, including bathrooms leaking into the garage, a sump pump that does not switch on and septic seeping up through the backyard. A 2020 customer said the company returned their call on a Saturday and referred them to a contractor. A 2020 customer said the full report came quickly, with written explanations and pictures. A 2016 customer said Troy Francis showed up on time and had everything back within a week.
I hired Alliance Home Inspections for my one?year warranty inspection on a new build and made it clear that the builder had already been out four times trying to fix ongoing bathroom fan ventilation issues and that I still suspected a problem. Their report stated the bathroom vents were hard?piped to the exterior with no major issues noted, and did not recommend further evaluation before my warranty expired. I have now spent almost 4,000 dollars correcting improperly installed ductwork and ventilation, including replacing and insulating the fan piping, moving vents, and repairing moisture?damaged ceilings. For a critical warranty inspection where a specific concern was clearly flagged, I do not feel Alliance exercised the level of diligence I expected and I would not use them again.
I strongly dislike that it has come to leaving a negative review, but here we go as apparently they are responding to reviews but not their emails. We purchased a house last November as first time home owners and contacted Alliance. They were initially very responsive and pleasant to deal with. The inspector came on time, spent several hours on the property, and then we received a nice detailed report within a week. The house we purchased has a chimney. The inspection overall said the chimney was good, the only concern was a damper not working freely and cleaning out the chimney cleanout. They recommended getting a formal chimney cleaning as their ability to inspect the interior chimney is limited. November is a busy time to try and find a chimney sweep. We called several and only one called us back, but couldn't get out until May. Where the initial inspection didn't show any major red flags, we didn't push the issue and decided to wait until May. Unfortunately, the chimney inspection didn't go well. We were told that there was severe water damage due to various factors (hence the RUSTY cleanout, not dirty), the furnace pipe leading to the chimney was not regulation size, the flashing of the roof wasn't installed properly, and the list goes on and on. We were told the sale never should have gone through without a formal chimney inspection and there are significant red flags that should have been caught from the ground. Overall it's going to cost us over 7k to do just the initial repairs alone, which is tough to swallow as it's already tough as buyers in this market as is. We have never lived in a house with a chimney so I am not sure what is normal, but I can tell you that the photo showing the "dirty" cleanout was clearly not dirt, but I took the inspector's word that this was normal. I reached out to Alliance to discuss the issue. We are outside of the 90 day warranty because it took so long to find a chimney sweep to come. My first email was June 1st, got no response, then sent another one to an email I found on their website on June 5th. I got a response back June 14th essentially with a canned "we always recommend that you get a chimney sweep as our ability to inspect chimneys is limited" response. We are not holding Alliance accountable for the things they truly could not see, like pieces of the chimney liner falling into our furnace. We would like for them to be accountable for the things they took photos of and clearly didn't know what they were looking at. We would have been grateful for "hey, I am not sure what's going on, but this doesn't look normal so try to get a guy in here ASAP." They offered to refund a PORTION of our inspection fee but they had to contact the manager (June 15th). After no response July 7th, I sent another email back, and it's been crickets. It's now been over a month since they last communicated with us. So as a word of caution to others reading these reviews, if the house has a chimney, do not rely on their inspection of it, but please set up your own inspection with an external chimney sweep, and push to get it done within the 90 day warranty as the company is not going to stand behind its work.
Joseph gets his work through Keller Williams. He is very affordable for a reason. We bought a money pit based on his inspection where he missed major issues. All of the bathrooms leaked through the ceiling into the garage, sump-pump does not switch on, septic seeping up through the backyard, dangerous wiring into the shed and at 10:00 in the morning he smelled like he had already been drinking. We trusted our realtor, and we should not have. This man is bad news and will not respond to any of this. We have now spent all of the savings we had put aside to build a fence and deck and do improvements to the house on issues that should have been on the home inspection. Buyer beware!!!
Very help, great job. went above and beyond.
I had a home inspection done by Alliance They were professional, very detailed in their report. I had a concern and contacted them And they returned my call on a Saturday! They also refered me to a contractor. This company is run by good people giving truthful inspections. I highly recommend Alliance for your home inspection!
