Allston Piano Moving Company does exactly one thing: move pianos, nothing else. The company says its trade traces back to 1955, started by founder George Franklin and passed to his son Robert, and since 2010 it has operated as a division of Gentle Giant Moving Company, working out of Boston across Greater Boston and New England. The reviews back up the specialization. In the past six months, thirteen reviews came in and every one was five stars, describing a baby grand carried from Newton to Roslindale without a mark on the floors, a Steinway B grand handled politely and on time, and a Mason & Hamlin grand inspected and re-wrapped into storage mode. One reviewer said she's used the crew five times in three years and "they have never disappointed me"; another has had the same team out six times over the same stretch. A difficult crane job into a third-floor apartment in early April drew the same praise for care as the routine moves. Across the full history, 152 reviews since 2022 and a 5.0 average on 229 Google ratings, this is about as consistent a record as a piano mover gets. The one thing worth flagging: an older review described a same-town move of a 48-inch upright as overpriced for the work involved, even while praising the crew's professionalism. It's a single account among more than 150 reviews. The company also isn't accredited by the Better Business Bureau, which mainly reflects not pursuing that program rather than anything about the work itself, and it's a member of the Piano Technicians Guild. For a grand, an upright, or anything else with strings and hammers, the volume and consistency of praise here, spanning stairs, cranes, tight elevators, and interstate hauls, make this a solid first call. Get a clear, itemized quote up front, especially for a short local move.

I hired Allston Piano to move my baby grand from Newton to Roslindale and am very pleased with the service - they showed up on time, were very careful with both the piano AND my floors, and had everything set up in the new location quickly. Highly recommend!

These people are highly professional and very pleasant to interact with. I'm talking about everyone, from the scheduler to the movers, and including Rudy who came out and helped us to realize that we could move the piano from one room to another without having to take it outside and put it through a window. Thank you Rudy! Thank you Andrew and the four movers who made fast (but careful!) work of getting this job done. They made it painless for us.
