Allston Piano Moving Company is a Boston piano-moving specialist — a division of Gentle Giant Moving Company since 2010, after operating for decades as a family business founded in 1955 by former professional wrestler George Franklin and later run by his son Robert Franklin. The company says it's been in business 60 years and that its movers are members of the Piano Technicians Guild; its stated service area covers Greater Boston, New England, and New York State. Reviews from the past several months are consistently five stars and describe pianos moved through genuinely hard conditions: a piano craned into a third-floor apartment through tight quarters, a baby grand moved from Newton to Roslindale with care for both the instrument and the floors, and a piano relocated from one room to another without ever going outside. Repeat business comes up often — one reviewer says the crew has moved their Steinway three times since 2011, and another has called on them at least six times over the past three years. The same names recur across reviews — Nuno Melo, Andrew, Rudy — for careful, communicative work. In an October 2025 review, one customer described a Yamaha U1 moved down a very tight staircase after another company had declined the job. In a January 2026 review, one customer said the crew did professional work but felt a $752 charge for moving a single upright piano within the same town — a roughly one-hour, three-person job — was overpriced. Allston Piano looks like the specialist to call for a piano move of any difficulty, from a simple in-home shift to a multi-story crane job — the specialization and the volume of repeat customers back that up. Guys were fast, neat and very organized. I had no worries at all, and would definitely have them again! Thank you!
I hired Allston Piano to move my baby grand from Newton to Roslindale and am very pleased with the service - they showed up on time, were very careful with both the piano AND my floors, and had everything set up in the new location quickly. Highly recommend!
Fab move of my Steinway B (grand). Polite, on time, flexible, helpful. Highly recommend.
Excellent! Communicative and reasonably prices
These people are highly professional and very pleasant to interact with. I'm talking about everyone, from the scheduler to the movers, and including Rudy who came out and helped us to realize that we could move the piano from one room to another without having to take it outside and put it through a window. Thank you Rudy! Thank you Andrew and the four movers who made fast (but careful!) work of getting this job done. They made it painless for us.
