AM Equipment is a heavy-civil contractor rather than a house contractor, and the distinction matters before anyone picks up the phone. Its own site describes MassDOT and asphalt paving, underground utilities, site work, concrete foundations and flatwork, run out of Charlestown with a sister company, AM Equipment NY, in Hogansburg, New York. An Equipment World article in June 2024 put the company at 20 employees across two locations — the Massachusetts side handling heavy highway, concrete, paving and site prep, the New York office concentrating on building construction — and named it one of twelve finalists for one of the magazine's awards. A SUNY Canton item identifies the owner as Andre White and describes an award presentation in Akwesasne. The credentials are the firmest part of the picture. The Small Business Administration's registry shows an active 8(a) Business Development certification running to 2033, and the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office shows active minority business enterprise and disadvantaged business enterprise certifications, the MBE good through 2029. The company's masthead describes it as a Native-owned company, and it states on its own site that it is MassDOT prequalified — that last one is its own claim rather than something confirmed here. Customer voices are the gap. Its BBB page carries an A+ but is unaccredited and shows no reviews and no complaints, and an unclaimed Procore listing has no trade list or rating either. That BBB page also describes the business in terms the rest of the material doesn't match — a sole proprietorship with one employee, four years old, managed by Andris Rieksts — against an LLC with 20 employees across two states as described in 2024. For a public agency, a general contractor hunting a certified DBE subcontractor, or a developer needing paving and site work, this is the shape of firm that does that work. A homeowner after a driveway is probably looking at the wrong scale — ask directly whether residential jobs are taken at all before going further.
“Today, the company has 20 employees in two locations. The Ipswitch, Massachusetts, location performs heavy highway, concrete, paving, and site prep, while the Hogansburg, New York, office focuses on building construction. AM Equipment is one of 12 finalists for Equipment World’s 2024 Contractor of the Year awards program.”
“AM Equipment, LLC, owned by Andre White, will be presented with the award on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Akwesasne.”
