Atlantic Fuels is a fuel dealer at 296 Lafayette Rd in Rye, New Hampshire that also runs a heating-service arm. The company says it was founded in Rye in 2000 by Jon Savage, a commercial fisherman who bought his first oil truck to complement his fishing operation, and that it now delivers heating oil, propane, kerosene, diesel and marine fuel across the Seacoast and southern Maine while installing and servicing heating systems. When they turn up, the work draws warm, specific praise. A January 2026 customer described a driver spotting a dead oil burner during a delivery and a technician diagnosing it the next day; an October 2025 reviewer thanked the same technician for swapping an old oil tank out of a wet basement; a September 2025 household switching suppliers was set up and filled within two hours of the first call. Earlier accounts describe propane on a Saturday morning within 40 minutes (2023), an oil delivery within an hour of the call on a snowy Portsmouth closing day (2023), and a 2022 furnace and air-conditioner pair where the final bills came in under the quote. A Reddit commenter in a May 2026 New Hampshire HVAC thread simply said they were easy to deal with. The complaints cluster on scheduling and communication rather than the workmanship. Two February 2025 reviewers — one a five-year customer, one a four-year customer — were told deliveries they had already ordered would be pushed by two weeks or into the following month, with no advance call; a February 2026 condominium owner said regular delivery never resumed after December; and a March 2026 reviewer said a crew left mid-visit without explanation and then asked them to clear a second path through the snow. Before booking, ask directly about lead times and how they notify you if a delivery date moves, and get the service commitment in writing: a January 2023 reviewer described five visits in early 2022 with different technicians giving contradictory diagnoses and correcting each other's wiring. The Better Business Bureau does not accredit them and grades them C+ solely for failing to respond to one complaint on file. On the record side, BuildZoom shows 23 permitted projects, 12 of them in the last three years, mostly Portsmouth oil-tank replacements and propane tank sets at a typical permit value near $4,100 — the tank and fuel-system work is clearly their bread and butter. New Hampshire does not require a contractor licence for this work, and nothing here was checked against a state registry.
“Atlantic Fuels was easy to deal with, they’re in the seacoast area”
Not dependable. They might show up, have some easily solved issue and then leave without saying anything. That’s what happened to me. When I resolved the issue they said they’d be back, then called back and said they wouldn’t and that I should go with another source. After talking to some guy who never introduced himself and “had to go home soon” (it was 2pm) I finally got them to agree to come. They didn’t even approach from the side they did in the morning after they asked me to shovel through a snowbank. Instead they delivered from the other side and asked me to shovel that instead after almost leaving without even knocking on the door. I then got to listen to the bigger of the two guys present cuss his head off out behind my house so loud I could hear it inside. They acted like this was their first time coming here, unprepared for the hose length they’d need. It’s the second time they’ve been here, second time in the snow this year, and my landlord used them personally when they lived here. They know they need a longer hose when they come here. When it was all said and done, I’m fairly certain I was also charged an emergency fill rate. I’ll never order from Atlantic Fuels again.
I'm not sure that I can recommend Atlantic Fuels. I contacted them because the previous owner of the condominium I purchased in December had used them and I assumed it wouldn't be difficult to continue regular delivery since they had been supplying the same unit for years. After a delivery in December I didn't hear from them again and I noticed last week that the gauge was close to empty. I called on Thursday and was told that it was too late to be added to the list for that day even though it was one of the only two days a week that they deliver to this town, Epping, and that I would have to wait until Tuesday. In the mean time it was suggested that I purchase a 5-gallon yellow fuel container that I fill with diesel fuel and pour into my fuel input pipe. So I spent $30 on a fuel container and filled it every day from Thursday to Tuesday paying the gas station rate and lugging it to the back of the unit in the dark to pour into the fuel input line. Needless to say when I returned home on Tuesday and noticed that it hadn't been delivered as promised I was quite upset. So I took my container back the gas station for another fill up. When I called this morning the woman I spoke with didn't have an answer for why the delivery had not been made. She promised to call back in 15-20 minutes when she could speak with dispatch, but she never did. When I returned home today I see that fuel has been delivered, which is a relief. However, I'm not sure that I would recommend Atlantic Fuels based on my experience so far.
Atlantic Fuels provides excellent customer service. My oil burner ceased to operate. Chris the driver agreed to check it during a delivery this week. I was in NY. He informed the office it wud not start up. I drove up the next day to meet Travis the technician for service. As always, he is friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He diagnosed the problem immediately. His knowledge base is impressive having worked in this capacity for years. Last year he did a tune-up and asked if he could move the file cabinet back so he had more room to do a better cleaning of the furnace. That sealed the deal. I then knew I was working with an individual committed to doing a thorough job. He uses his time efficiently. He expressed how he loved his job. Afterwards, he cleaned the area he was working in being respectful of my place. Does work performance get any better than this? Madison and Kristen are also very dedicated to making sure performance of everyone has a positive outcome and customers are happy. Atlantic Fuels has an extraordinary team dedicated to providing the very best customer service to their clients. Thank you!
I just have to give a huge thank you to Travis -he installed a new oil tank for me yesterday and had to remove the old one! It was a long hard day! They worked hard in he rain and then in my creepy old basement. He was kind and patient and smiled as he told me I was one of the toughest jobs he had ever done! So happy -Thank you Atlantic Fuel for the best service guy ever! Shelley
We had such a great experience with getting our oil filled and getting our furnace back up and running. The fuel company we had used prior to this had retired, so we needed to find another fuel company and quickly! After my initial call, they set us up as new customers and they were at our house within two hours. We also appreciated their flexibility in working around our busy work schedules--as a kindergarten teacher in my first back to school I couldn't exactly leave my classroom!!! We are so appreciative of their service and quick response. I highly recommend them!
