Atlantic Heating Company says on its BBB page that it delivers heating oil and propane and has a full HVAC department, and its website names Portland, Westbrook and South Portland among the Maine towns it serves. A recent Google customer who leases a water heater from Unitil said Unitil sent Atlantic, and Nick came out the same day to inspect and found the chimney needed cleaning before a new water heater could go in. When the customer called at 10 o'clock to say the chimney was done, Nick was back to inspect before 11:00, stayed to drain the old heater, and the new one arrived before the old was fully drained. The company's BBB page says Stan Morrell started it in 1969, his son Bill continued it, and it is now an ESOP; its website claims 57 years in business. A recent customer said the company fitted a cooking stove for liquid propane and installed a larger propane tank to meet the home's needs, and thanked Paul, Travis, Carolynn and Donitta by name. A customer wrote that Vinny recently completed work at their home and praised his craftsmanship, professionalism and attention to detail. Google shows 4 stars from 82 ratings, and the BBB page carries an A+ grade with accreditation. A 2026 customer whose boiler failed in the middle of winter said the company got them on the schedule within days, showed up when it said it would, and recommended a better tank that gave them enough hot water for several showers in a row. That 2026 customer also wrote that only one floor had heat after the nearly 15k system went in, and that the company came back 5 times over several weeks while its team insisted furniture near the heat registers was the cause and dismissed the customer, who pointed out the furniture had been there before the new system. In the same 2026 review, the customer said they bought and installed a new thermostat on the company's recommendation, and that on another visit the company replaced it with a different one and took the one they had bought, which the customer allowed might have been an accident. The 2026 customer wrote that the problem turned out to be an improperly installed piece rather than the furniture, and that they seemed to get more traction only after a male partner took over communications, even though the customer was the client who bought the boiler. That 2026 customer called it an extremely expensive and frustrating process. A 2026 customer who said they were on social security wrote that their furnace stopped running in mid-March after an oil delivery in mid-January, and that after learning a service call cost $149 they needed a plan b: 6 gallons of diesel got the furnace running and 18 more gallons kept it running. That 2026 customer left it to readers to decide what caused the furnace to stop.

“I love Atlantic Heating, because they are in right in Riverside, I order online and they deliver next morning. They service furnaces too.”
“Atlantic Heating in Portland appears to be up 40 cents from our last delivery.”
“The wayback internet archive shows prices in January of 2022 at $3.399 with Atlantic Heating”
“said Bill Morrell, the second-generation owner of Portland’s Atlantic Heating Company”
Atlantic Heating has been wonderful to work with. They fitted my cooking stove for Liquid Propane and even went all out on installing a larger propane tank to meet our home's needs. I would 100% recommend them for their customer service and willingness to go above and beyond. Their ability to service our Rinnai (on demand water heater) and install new lines for a new propane fireplace is also super helpful. Our family has nothing but good things to say about Atlantic Heating. Special thanks to Paul, Travis, Carolynn, Donitta and the wonderful gentlemen who set the new propane tank and reconnected the new service flawlessly. Thank you all very much. Super happy.
Atlantic Heating Company is a very reliable and trustworthy company that stands behind their word. They get the job done right the first time and consistently deliver outstanding service. Vinny recently completed work at my home, and his craftsmanship, professionalism, and attention to detail were top-notch. You’re in excellent hands with Atlantic Heating Company. I highly recommend them!
Fast, friendly , professional service. I lease my water heater from Unitil and they sent Atlantic to take care of the job. Nick was here the same day to inspect everything and found my chimney needed to be cleaned before they could install a new hot water heater. I called Atlantic at 10 o'clock and said the chimney has been taken care of and Nick was back to inspect it before 11:00. He called the office and said everything was good to go, "send a water heater over". He stayed and drained the old water heater and the new water heater was here before the old was fully drained. It was a smooth experience!
After receiving a oil delivery in mid-January my furnace stopped running mid-march. After I reach out to the service department and learned that it was $149 for a service call and on social security I needed a plan b. 6 gallons of diesel got the furnace running 18 additional gallons kept it running. I'll leave it to you to determine what caused my furnace to stop running.
Atlantic Heating Pros: 1. Quick and responsive - got us on the schedule within days to replace our failed boiler in the middle of winter. 2. Showed up when they said they would, did the work. 3. They recommended a better tank and we finally have enough hot water for multiple 10-15m showers in a row. 4. Heat works great now and we have a brand new efficient system. Atlantic Heating Cons: 1. Only 1 floor had heat after they installed our nearly 15k system. 2. They had to come back 5 times over the course of several weeks to figure out what was wrong. Their team insisted that I needed to move the furniture further from the heat registers and consistently argued with me that the furniture placement was the reason our new system couldn't heat our first floor above 50ºF. When I mentioned that the furniture had always been there and I didn't see why it should only be a problem now, I was dismissed. 3. We bought and installed a new thermostat on their recommendation after one of their return visits. 4. On another visit, after checking our install, they replaced our thermostat with a different and then just...took the one we bought. Might have been an accident but I thought it was odd. 5. Finally, the owner came back and fixed the problem, which, you guessed it, was not with the furniture placement but rather with an improperly installed piece. Would have been pretty nice to have heat during the several weeks it took for the problem to get resolved. 6. After all this back and forth with them, I told my male partner to tell them the exact same thing I had been saying and handle communications with them. After that, we seemed to get more traction. This was after I explained that I was their client, not him. I own the house and I bought the boiler. Didn't seem to matter. I guess I'm glad it got resolved finally but it was overall an extremely expensive and frustrating process. That being said, boiler works, hot water works.
