Bedford Home Improvement is a Bedford, New Hampshire-based painting and carpentry contractor run by Bruce Randel, with a written review history stretching back to at least 2019 across Google, Angi, HomeAdvisor and the company's own site. The bulk of that record is strongly positive and highly specific: homeowners describe full exterior repaints paired with carpentry repairs — custom garage molding, trim blocking, replacing rotted wood with PVC in high-moisture areas — and several mention Bruce personally walking the property, offering tiered good/better/best options, and coming in under his original quote. Multiple reviewers who had roofs replaced say he helped them color-match the new roof to a fresh paint job and, in one case, extended painting above the roofline specifically to protect the new shingles. A customer who has used the company for three years running (exterior painting, window replacement, bulkhead work) still describes the team as communicative, honest and fair on price as of August 2026. The record isn't uniform, though. A 2023 review describes the opposite experience on a deck-and-carpentry project: weeks of no contact after the deposit, workers on-site only briefly, and the job ultimately going unfinished. A 2020 review describes an unsupervised subcontractor install, incomplete plywood replacement, and an unresolved dispute that reportedly went to small-claims court. Another 2020 review — despite carrying a 5-star rating on the page itself — is written as a complaint: the reviewer says they couldn't get a response about a roof leak they believed was still under a 10-year warranty. Ratings vary noticeably by platform: Google and the company's own site both show 4.9 stars from 35 reviews, while Angi shows 4.2 from 15 and HomeAdvisor 4.1 from 8 — the lower-scored platforms are exactly where the negative accounts above are posted. HomeAdvisor's listing also states 26 years of experience and Spanish-language service, self-reported claims that aren't independently verified and don't obviously reconcile with the 2019-onward review trail. Worth asking about before booking: get a clear written timeline and communication plan up front, especially for larger multi-phase jobs like deck builds or full exteriors — the negative reviews cluster around projects that ran long or went quiet, not around the quality of finished work itself, which even critics tend to praise. For a Bedford-area homeowner who wants a locally known painter with strong, specific praise for exterior work and roof-paint coordination, Bedford Home Improvement has a long track record — just confirm the schedule and check in regularly on bigger jobs.
I have used Bedford Home Improvement for the past three years on various projects around my home including exterior painting, window replacement, bulkhead replacement and other carpentry. Bruce and his team are excellent, highly communicative, honest and fair with pricing. Bruce sends constant updates on projects showing you everything they are doing to complete the job in the proper fashion. He makes sure you are completely satisfied with the job and has no problem fixing things that you are not happy with. He is extremely responsive and goes the extra mile on everything. We had a issue with a pipe leak in our exterior wall, I called Bruce to ask for advice, he was there within an hour with his carpenter, found the leak and helped get everything fixed before significant damage occurred. He also is extremely transparent fair and honest on billing. I cant recommend Bruce and his team enough.
Bedford Home Improvement replaced much of my roof prior to a my DIY solar installation. They did a great job on the roof installation and assisted me in the installation of the mounting feet for my solar. Very competetive price, great service and easy to work with.
Great people, great work, great price.
This was a small interior painting project. Estimate from owner that the one painter he sent could complete in 10 days. Actual completion took 21 days from start, with the painter taking off 3 days for a head cold. The painter was extremely slow, faced physical limitations, did not work full days and took numerous breaks. Quality was excellent as expected from a professional painter and would rate 5 stars. However, the lack of timely completion, non-existent planning on how to complete, extremely poor communications, and professional and personal conduct while in our house was absolutely unacceptable. All of these I would rate as 0 stars, leading to my overall rating of 1 star.
Bedford Home Improvement has earned repeat business and is my go-to for exterior painting and carpentry services. The team's speed and workmanship met/exceeded expectation. The contractor was careful to track and contain costs and provided daily picture updates. Full endorsement and I will go to them first for all exterior and interior craftsman work.
