Ben King & Sons is a generator business first. The company calls itself a Maine generator connection for sales, installation, warranty repair, service and regular maintenance of Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton and other brands, and says it covers the entire State of Maine. It also says it has been in business 66 years and offers 24/7 emergency service. One customer needed a new starter for a 17 KW generator and said they were very good to work with. A 2023 customer described a standby generator install at a three-bedroom home: they moved a 300-pound generator and a heavier slab of reinforced concrete about 50 feet to the back of the house, through doors, uneven ground and hardened snow, then hooked it up, tested it in front of the customer and cleaned up. That 2023 customer said the quote process was easy and done remotely. A 2024 customer said that in a December 2023 storm, down lines and fallen trees first kept them from getting there, but Sean got a non-functioning standby generator cranking again. A 2024 customer who had a Generac installed called the crew polite, personable and efficient. A 2024 customer with a vacation place paid $573 for a visit that included a new battery and charger, an oil change, filters and spark plugs, and said the generator still did not kick on when the power went out. That 2024 customer said the technician had noted a possible transformer issue or an aging generator but never told them, and that a return visit was quoted at another $195. A 2023 customer said the company kept $1,000 of a $2,500 refundable deposit after a home sale fell through and would not return calls or emails about it; a reply signed Brian King in that 2023 review said that usually there are no refunds. A 2024 customer reported a no-call, no-show on a scheduled service call after waiting 3.5 weeks, and a 2023 customer said the office could give no date or time, only that they would stop by next time they were in the area.
needed a new starter for 17 KW GEN they where very good to work with.
Its February -2 wind chill and our tech is out doing service, cheerful and shivering. Thank you! I called the office and moved our servicing date to the spring from now on.
Received an annual service email for our vacation place from these folks, and since we noticed our generator wasn't cycling on for test every week, we had them come out. We didn't need to be there they said. They put in a new battery and charger, changed the oil, filters, spark plugs, cleaned slip rings, and supposedly checked the exercise time. We paid the $573 and moved along. We lost power this weekend and it didn't kick on. So we call and ask what's going on. Apparently, their internal notes are for their techs only, and they don't share it with the customer on the invoice. The tech that came out noted he thinks there is an issue with the transformer that powers the battery, or that the generator is getting old and could use replacement, but never bothered to tell us. "We'll be happy to come take another look, but it'll cost you another $195", the lady said when I called. 2 stars because they were great for the first couple years, but we're going to look elsewhere.
We had Generac installed today. The crew was polite, personable, and efficient. They did a great job.
No call, No Show on day they scheduled a service call after waiting 3.5 weeks.

Typical Maine range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Ben King & Sons. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
