Berg Building & Remodeling is Daryl Berg. His first name is the one customers actually write down, and BBB lists the company at 9 Foss Terrace in Marblehead with exactly one employee and an A+ grade — on a profile that is explicitly not BBB accredited. The written history is short and it stops early. Three reviews on Houzz, all five stars, the newest posted in March 2017. Two of them are about basements. A February 2016 customer wrote that Daryl turned a cold, empty space into a bright basement bathroom and cleaned up constantly as the work went on, calling his crew easy to have in the house. A June 2016 customer hired the company for a handful of smaller projects outside the house and came away calling it reliable and reasonably priced. The third is the one worth sitting with. A March 2017 reviewer described a full basement conversion — bedroom, bathroom, bar, home theater and gym — then rated the job quality "ok" and noted the work ran two years. Five stars on the page, a much cooler sentence underneath it. What the company advertises reaches well past what anyone has written about: custom homes, additions, historic building conservation, waterproofing, deck building and custom finish work. Houzz shows a construction supervisor number, CS-104819, alongside unnumbered CSL, HIC and RRP credential labels. Those are the directory's listings, not a registry check, so treat them as claims to confirm rather than credentials already confirmed. This is the right call for a homeowner who wants one experienced builder running a basement conversion or careful finish work on the North Shore, and who is comfortable hiring on a written history that ends in 2017. Before signing, ask for references from jobs finished in the last two years, verify the HIC and construction supervisor registrations directly with the state, and get the schedule in writing — the biggest project anyone described here took two years to close out.

Thank you Daryl for a beautiful job remodeling our basement bathroom. You took a cold, empty space and created a gorgeous spa-like room. Our basement is now completely functional as well as bright and modern. The job was done with constant clean up and Daryl was meticulous in the fine details. His team is professional and pleasant to work with. We never felt inconvenienced during the process. Thank you for a job well done!
