Ace Handyman Services Essex County North works out of Salem for the small, hard-to-staff jobs other contractors skip — a stuck door, a busted railing, a fireplace someone wants gone. On Angi, the company lists itself as in business since 2024, part of the national Ace Handyman Services franchise backed by Ace Hardware, and describes itself as locally owned and independently operated. The volume is what stands out: 71 ratings on Google average 4.9 stars, and the same names keep turning up in the write-ups — Max, Todd, Nina, Scott, Kieran — pointing to a small, consistent crew rather than a rotating cast of subcontractors. In the last six months, 15 reviews came in without a single negative one, describing jobs like pulling an ethanol fireplace out of a condo wall and rebuilding the wall behind it ("it looks like nothing was ever there") and installing a folding attic ladder with cleanup after each visit. Going back through 2025, the range is the same kind of work: gutter leak repairs, cabinet hardware swaps, cracked-wall patching, a vinyl floor replacement, and a basement floor rebuilt after damage — usually one or two workers, in and out the same day. The one blemish in that run is a single 1-star review from September 2025 alleging the company billed for two workers on a job where only one showed up. It's an outlier against everything else on the page, but worth asking about staffing and hourly billing before a bigger job — Angi separately lists a $120/hour labor rate. For the odd jobs a general contractor won't take on, this is a company with a real, recent track record behind it. Confirm crew size and how hours get billed if the job needs more than one set of hands.

We had a silly ethanol fireplace removed from the wall in our condo Max H. He did a fantastic job of the removal and rebuilding the wall. It looks like nothing was ever there. We'll definitely use Max and his team again.
